Here's a puzzle for the die hard's amongst us.
While the majority of us are aware the T-55 tank chase sequence was levesden and not really st petersburg, does anyone have an idea on the realism of the pegasus statue bond drives through?
Is it/was it based on a real statue? Was it made up for the film to fit in with the action sequence?
Thinking caps on people!
edit: was it actually a t55? found several places on the net saying it was actually a t54 :S HELP!!

I'm guessing that it was probably based on this statue but the production company and set designers thought that a winged horse would have more of a comedy value for it flying through the streets on the back of a tank!
There are also the horse tamer statues on the Anichkov Bridge, however, are the Horse Tamers by Pyotr Klodt, who also sculpted the equestrian statue of Nicholas I on St. Isaac's Square, and the quadriga above the portico of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
So all in all I guess that this was a prop inspired by what was seen on location in Russia - but not based on an actual statue in the city - I could be wrong as this is just what I've looked at in 5 minutes - but lets see what everyone else thinks!
They also had one of the SFX models of the tank that was used for filming
That's neat. Never hadn't heard of that museum.
as far as the tank's concerned, most people are saying its a russian T-55, but some, like here are saying it might be a T-54.
I know the other tanks in the tank park at the start of the chase are cheiftens dressed up to look like T-55's, but can anyone confirm, or have solid proof the tank bond drives is a T-55 or a T-54?
as for the statue, I'm going with what Aston Martin DBS is saying. Inspired by, but probably not a direct copy of a statue. I'm thinking that someone in the model dept. suggested using a statue of Peter the first on a horse as a base, and added wings to fit in with the lada crash gag. I've actually seen a figurine of this minus the wings, but its a pricey pewter piece so back to the drawing board.
Any further advice or confirmation on the tank type would be great people, appreciate the time you guys take to help each other (and me) out.

edit: after further squinting at screen shoots etc i'm pretty sure the tank is a t-54b with ALOT of modifications.

But were there two tanks used in action sequences ( clearly there we chieftains dressed as mg says) - or did this one goto the bond museum ( now defunct and headed to USA) ??
or could one of the two tanks just have been set dressing??
The action sequence "hero" tank was adapted for "blind" driving - are both of these adapted in the way (extra hatch cut out with Perspex screen)??
from what i can make out, the actual tank is a t54b. an additional hatch has been cut in the deck for old brossa to sit in, and the lights and their protective cage have been moved to the opposite site of their original position.
the real driver is located in the right place, but inside, and now sees where he's going through a perspex screen under the cage that sits over the lights.
for the driving, the original t54b tracks were removed and replaced with cheiften road-going tracks, which have rubber 'shoes' on the track links, reducing damage to the road surface when driving.
additional side skirts are added to cover the tracks up.
other than that, the obvious difference is all them boxes on the hull and turret. i believe these were meant to be 'reactive armour'. and thats about it i think. the influence of the placing of the 'reactive armour' boxes obviously comes from the serbian variant of the t-55, seen here;

oh yeah and theres a f@cking big statue of some guy on a flying horse on the roof.
would everyone agree with all that or are some bits wrong or missing?
cheers for ya time guys
