SPOILER: Person of Interest (USA)

Just wondering if any watched the first episode?

Looks like this will be an interesting show.

Since I'm no good at writing I'll post these:

From IMDB:

Centers on ex-CIA hitman and a scientist who team up to prevent crimes before they happen.

From Wikipedia:

Mr. Finch (Michael Emerson), a mysterious billionaire, has developed a computer program that predicts the identity of people connected to violent crimes that will take place in the future. However, the program has its limitations; for example, it cannot predict whether the person will be a victim, perpetrator, or witness, nor can it predict when or where the crime will take place. Unable to stop the crimes on his own, Finch hires John Reese (Jim Caviezel), a former CIA field officer who is presumed dead, to help stop the crimes from taking place.
The pilot episode establishes that Finch originally built the machine for the government as a means to prevent another 9/11-type disaster, but found that it was also predicting many "irrelevant" crimes. Finch built a backdoor into the machine that, before erasing the "irrelevant data" each night, sends Finch a single Social Security number of someone involved in one of those crimes. Finch also reveals that the world thinks that he, like Reese, is dead.

It's a familiar twist on an old formula really but the pilot kept me interested enough to set a reminder on my dvr to tune in.

Who knew that Jesus was such a badass? :))

    Personally, I liked it.

    Anyone else watching this?

Since the title sequence can explain the show better than I can, give this one minute video a look.

Hopefully we can discuss this show on a weekly basis. Anybody else interested (no pun intended :v )?

I liked the subplot with the Mexican drug cartel more than I did the main plot last night. Show's growing on me and the kid more and more each week.

What do you think that guy's decision was at the end? Pretty much a no-brainer?

I'm sure it was a no-brainer also. But I wonder if the writers left it open for a reason. Maybe in a future show we'll see what his decision was? Maybe it'll be another small plot element for Detective Carter to investigate and try to catch the mystery man (a.k.a Mr. Reese) who walked out of the police station in the pilot.

Also, still no reason given as to why Mr. Finch has a limp. Finch said it was a long story. The show has already used flashbacks, maybe we'll get a flashback show that will give us the story as to why Mr. Finch limps and why he had spinal fusion surgery.

In regards to the last episode (Oct. 20th), something happened in the show that got me thinking. What would think if a stranger came up to you and offered to help you find a kidnapped family member? The kidnappers told the judge no cops and no FBI. A stranger comes up to you and offers help and says he's not connected to the kid nappers and is not law enforcement. Would you be scratching your head and wondering how this guy knows about the kidnapping?

I've been watching religiously since the pilot given I am a major JJ Abrams addict and I think this show is absolutely fabulous. The last two episodes in particular were SUPERB. The last one had MAJOR Bond vibes with Reese in a tux explaining his past as a spy in a flashback with a beautiful woman as his "handler", and the main plot being about a former East Germany spy.. it was great! And next week's one looks even more interesting seen as the person of interest will be, uhm... Carter!

I'm very sorry I'm not on here as often as I would like to but I have no time... I'd be definitely interested in a weekly discussion about the show! I reeeally like it. And man, if Jim Caviezel wasn't American I'd want him as Bond! :))

Glad to see another person in this thread. Let's discuss away. Just curious if you watched Lost? If so, was the East German Spy someone that looked familiar?

I did watch Lost but I lost interest after s3... did watch the finale and all and I was amongst those who were actually satisfied with it, I expected something like that. I am a MAAAJOR JJ Abrams fan so I always check out his projects (in fact I will be watching Alcatraz as well when it premieres in January). Alias is definitely my favorite TV show and SO much of what came after borrowed from it.. including Lost of course, which was Alias's first "derivative" so to speak :D

Oh yes Alan Bale (that's the name of the actor) was on Lost... he was also a member of the regular cast on the O.C., in fact the night the episode aired I tweeted him saying "Oh hi Seth Cohen's grandpa... I see you're on Person of Interest tonight?" :)) :)) That was a majorly great episode and Bale was very good in his role as a former Stasi spy.

I'm extremely curious to see this Thursday's one as well, because Carter being the Person of Interest puts a whole new spin on the concept that I am very excited to see unfold... JJ always knows best, and he has IMPECCABLE casting track record, that's the big thing.. his shows may or may not succeed (they mostly succeed but with some notable exceptions, like Undercovers last season, which I DID like) but regardless, you can stay assured he picks the PERFECT actors for the roles. I think casting was key for PoI because both Emerson and Caviezel are absolutely terrific in their respective roles. And the show entirely revolves around the two of them and their chemistry. I am partial to Caviezel obviously (What, I'm a girl, I like badass good-looking men! :)) ) and he truly carries the show, but Emerson is really good, too. I got a few friends of mine to watch (selected ones, it really isn't a show for everyone :)) and they're all loving it. It has very good ratings but I think it could do even better with a bit more promotion.

For some reason I didn't know J.J. Abrams was an Executive Producer. What caught my interest was Jonathan Nolan (brother to Christopher Nolan) was the series creator. My theory is, if a Nolan is behind it, it's probably going to be good.

JJ Abrams is the main Executive Producer. Nolan went to him with the concept and it was originally meant to be a movie, but JJ Abrams told him this was a great concept for a TV series, and developed it, and that's how we got Person of Interest. JJ always knows best :D And of course if a Nolan has an idea for a movie or a TV show, it's probably going to be good. So the two put together? Awesomeness! I saw a second promo for Thursday night's episode and it looks fabulous! Motorbike, leather-clad Reese included :x

One other little tidbit of the show I like. If you watch the opening credits, towards the end they also place a one to two second clip from that weeks show into the credit sequence. The clip always features that weeks Person Of Interest. I didn't pick up on it until the third week.

Ah, that is a secret true fans only are in on :D I agree it's a small detail but it's really good... it's that type of thing that indicates how much care they put in writing and assembling the show. And I always appreciate that attention... if they put care in the credit sequence, they can only put more care in the rest (well, generally speaking of course). And, I never thought I'd find Jim Caviezel so good at an action hero role, but I was sold after watching the promos during the summer and COMPLETELY sold after seeing the pilot. Emerson also does a great job and the fact they made Finch have that disability is also a nice detail that contributes to shaping the character the way it is. Like you said, there are details that make the show better.

And last night's episode was once again pure awesome! The twist with Carter being the person of interest was great, and it allowed them to give out more details about Carter's life and her character. Excellent ratings for the episode, too so win win! :D

Even though Carter was the Person of Interest in last nights episode, Carter said it best "My life is always in danger. I'm a cop." I still love how this show uses some technology to get information to protect people. The cell phone syncing, the little cameras in the bobble body cop etc.... I think this show was more of a set-up for future shows. We see a villain of the show starting to emerge, and that's Elias. It also shows Mr. Reese and Mr. Finch are there to protect Carter. She knows someone is watching out for her, she doesn't know who though and doesn't know how the "Guardian Angels (Finch & Reese)" know so much about her. Next weeks show looks just as good as this past Thursdays.
