Ozwald Boateng knows what I mean. -{
Exactly what I was thinking, I suppose we'll find out soon enough. My 'heeeeeeeeeeeeeeee's back' statement was more filled with financial dread than delight, believe me.
I couldn't fault the cut of the suits from QoS, but mixing things up a bit with DCs wardrobe would be great.
Well, I can! An overblown designer wardrobe as seen in Quantum is Step 1 in destroying the illusion for me. If it was only for Bond's off duty time that would be one thing, but QoS proved its not, since he was mostly a loose canon on deck. I had a look at Tom Ford's latest styles here,

as fashion statements, the clothes are eye catching, imaginative and some do look creative. (Obviuously I am not refering to the "curtain pattern" jackets, and trying not to wince at the wan, pin thin models (Male and female). But the wardrobe are showy, attention grabbing stand out of the crowd gear. For a Sports celebrity like David Beckham or leading actor like Mr Craig, - fair enough. Its red carpet on Bafta night, or Attending the Booker prize gear. The discrete, understated uniform of the Secret Service? Ppffft!
Plus if the product placement machine from the last three films is anything to go by, you can bet if Ford will be supplying Cardigans, Shoes, Overcoats, Scarves, dark glasses, jewelery and anything else he can as well. I admire him for his creativity, and his marketing style. But its a crying shame he is effectively 007's personal shopper!
I am curious now to see if my expectations of Step 2 will follow through too.
Sorry TB2, just have to pick you up on a couple of points, you started by saying you could fault the cut of the TF suits in QoS, which I thought were sharp as a pin, but despite the lengthy assault on TFs catalogue, completely failed to back up why you felt that way,and secondly, don't forget, ANY designers show collection is always just that. Hardly ever representative of what is actually available to the masses, or indeed what he'd choose to dress James Bond in.
Not trying to pick a fight a fight with you, and believe me I'm not Tom Fords biggest fan for several reasons, but I do admire a great deal of the choices in the last movie and was curious about your motives behind your words.
Don't forget, you KNEW he was wearing Tom Ford off duty. Most people wouldn't, to be honest, as folks like MANTIS have proved with his wonderful 'on a budget' videos, 007 could have shopped entirely at NEXT or Banana republic if we didn't know better. No labels were on show, the only direct clothing or accessory naming in either movie has been Omega.
Lol! - As backward as this may sound, I completely agree! To clarify, I am a grumpy middle aged man. The Tom Ford style is too slick, showy and too sharp for my personal taste, and I felt as a costuming style, its a mistake for the look of Bond. - It makes him stand out too much. I didn't know that TF had actually done the costuming for DC when I saw the film, but I could see Bond's wardrobe had become far more stylised. - You couldn't fail to spot him in any scene he was in. The dinner suit was a classic example. Its a modern attempt to retro-reuse the look Connery had. The suit is beautifully made and Craig wears it well. It looks good on him (the actor,) but as I see it, it looks out of place on Bond as a character, because it makes him obvious, even in a sea of black tie. Not to mention its supposed to be a wardrobe theft? The cream designer jeans and matching zip front navy jacket are a casual attire version of the same problem. Mind you, I did spot that all the comps seemed to be Sony's and the Mobs were all Erriksons! I have only seen the film twice - the action sequences hurt my eyes and I could not engage with the story, besides the wrap up of the Vesper left-overs from CR. There are probably a million holes in my argument and I am the first to acknowledge that.
I guess I am just annoyed and griping, because I did not enjoy tha film and it felt like an extended advert to me,one that did not inspire me. - Both of clothing, and tech. Of course the fact all the adverts before the film at the cinema were Smernoff, Sony and S Errikson did not help! I don't relish the idea of more of the same next time round.
This is simply my perception. Who knows? If other aspects of 23 are different from QoS, I may not even notice Craig's wardrobe.
As TF is Craig's personal tailor/provider of gratis clothing, it was clear TF would be back. DC's pimping of TF may be rather OTT but, hell, it's the movie business.
From a Bond point of view, I have no issue, however, with the idea of James Bond seemingly having done a trolly dash around a TF store. Stylish, top quality kit, all under one roof; perfect for the priavtely well-bushed secret agent.
And TF'll be out, anyway, when DC moves on after this next movie: new Bond, new look. Unless TF has tapped him, 007th, up first...
I do echo my brethren above that I hope they "spread the wealth" around to other designers this time. As much as I am a TF fan, I think a varied wardrobe would be more fun, and interesting...oh, btw there will be a podcast coming in October of the TF visit and post "fitting"....
That is really neat and interesting.
As I think about it, I really miss people finding a bunch of different designers that are responsible for the CR wardrobe. It would be fun to get a list of other brands that Bond selects.
That said, Bond sounds like he is on track to look good in Bond 23.
Thanks David, in spite of my gripes above, this is good news on this story, and facinating at that. Clearly Mr B was getting fitted out for his own purposes (poss work related) while Mr C was a company work appointment! Looking forward to the pod as always too.
Its nice having friends in high places!
