Standard In Mercer Jean length/Inseam?

Hi guys, I am new here but always had been a regular guest visitor upon taking advise on the topic of James Bond clothing from this site and particularly in this forum. Since I had almost daily visit, I thought I'll sign up... Anyway, I should stop stalling and get to my point. (Thanks for reading)

I have a small question about the Standard In Mercer Jean from 7 for all Mankind. Here's the link:

http://uk.7forallmankind.com/en_en/men/denim/straight-jeans/standard-in-mercer.html

I was wondering about the length/Inseam for that particular jean. Does anyone know or have brought such an item to know the length/inseam on that particular jean? I am a size 32, btw. Normally, my length/Inseam is 30-32 in.

Thank you in advance for any reply or comment.

Well, looks like I have to wing it and order it to see for myself. :p

Anyway, when I recieve my order... I will post the length/inseam here. Such info should be quite vaulable to other members if they wish to invest on a pair of Standard In Mercer 7 jean.

    Thank you very much. :)

If you don't mind me asking? Do you find the length of the jean too long? I mean, I can tolerate 32in" but since I am not that tall (5.6)... would 34in" in length be too long?

Your opinion will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

    Hi Tom

With my Chukka boots on they are perfect (I have one pair in Standard and one in Bootcut) however I am just under 6ft.

If I'm in the house I have to tuck them up (like all my jeans) but they are perfect with footwear.

I will measure up tonite, if no reply remind me as I'm forgetful these days!!!

Thank you for the speedy reply and info. Very helpful, indeed. :) I recently brought a pair of Clarks desert boots myself, with your info, I assumed it would definitely helped in terms of improving the look if the length of those 7 jean is too long.

Thank for the measurement in advance...

    Hi Tom,

Long time lurker here myself before joining.

My 7s were 32W 34L. I had them taken up to a 31 inch inside leg. I am about 5 ft 9 and the length seems fine with Chukkas. Any longer and the legs will just bunch up or the bottom of the leg will catch on the heel and wear through quicker IMHO.

    Cheers

    Hi, Bomber133

Thank you for your valuable info, very helpful. When you say you had them taken up to a 31in", do you mean you went to the tailor or just fold it them in?

So, 34in" in length (with Chukkas) would be just fine but any longer would be quite disastrous, right? Although you are taller than I am... :P

Anyway, thanks a bunch for your help. Much appreciated.

Mine are definitely long. I'm 5' 6" and I bought a 32" and a 34" pair. I tuck them under (I don't have the heart to permanently alter them). Even with my Ryder III's, they are still long on me. That said, they're still one of my favorite pairs of jeans.

I'm 5'8" and had mine taken up by a tailor. I'm not sure of the original length but they look fine with the Arthur Knight chukkas.

    Hi Oracabessa

Thanks for the sharing your insight. You are same height as me, I totally understand your concern in altering those jeans. Looks like those 7 jean I am ordering will most like be 34" in length... I have no objection to folding them in as I do to some of my jeans, anyway. :P

Well, you have been very helpful. Thank you.

I see... I can't Thank you enough. I'm going to get two pairs and send one to the tailor. Say, when you altered your Jean, dose it retained the straight standard look.

Thank you very much for you info...Very kind of you.

It does retain the straight standard look IMO. The Tailor only had to cut off a couple of inches.

btw, the Standard In Mercer Jean in the link is the correct one, if not, similar to the one Craig wore in the final part of QoS, right?

It is the current version of it, being same fit and denim, but belt loop and rivets are not identical to the older kind.

Yes, I had them taken up - cost about £6 or £8 I think. I wouldn't fold them.
  • Thomas-CrownThomas-Crown London, KnightsbridgePosts: 156MI6 Agent
For £6-£8, well worth it. :)

I am going to order them when I get home tonight.

    Thanks again.

    You're most welcome.

Have you checked on eBay? I picked mine up for £60 a pair new still with tags. They were from the US so postage was about £10. They still worked out at less than 50% of the price in the UK.

Just place the order from the 7 official website. Free shipping, not bad.

I can't wait to get them.

My 7s has arrived... Tried it on and yes, it is a bit too long. Going to take it to the tailor... Folding it up doesn't look right. :P

    Thanks everyone for the help.

    Hi guys

Searched the forum and there seems to be a few differing opinions in earlier threads, so thought I'd test the water in this latest one ... Can any of you that own the 7's advise as to whether they are of a 'true' sizing, or is it advisable to go up a size? I have pretty big legs and am thinking that this may be an issue. Also wondering if a 34 inside leg is the standard? (I'm only a short arse 29!).

Thanks in advance for any help!
  • welshboy78welshboy78 Posts: 10,320MI6 Agent
I would not go up a size personally as I have actually gone down a size!!

They have spandex in them so they are quite stretchy and very comfortable!! I also have big legs and find the Sta Prests are quite uncomfortable for me with the correct sizing as the material is pretty rigid hence tight around my quads. The Mankinds are the total opposite!

If I was you I would stay to your true size!!

I have two pairs and they are both 34 in length so maybe this is standard?

Many thanks mate for the swift & detailed reply - after reading your post, I'm pretty certain that I'll chance my arm with my usual size and then get them tailored re: leg length. A pair of Ryder 3's are next on the list, so it looks like my bank account is going to be taking a hell of a beating!! :D

:P Well worth the money, though. I was 50/50 before getting the 7s, not only the length but also the price. However, once I got it, you can see why it cost so much. The tailoring and materials are just outstanding!

Anyway, the pair of Mercer I recently brought, the length is definitely 34"... It is their standard length for the Straight Mercer. I agree with what welshboy78 said, if you are size 32, get 32. It will fit perfectly. Only the length is the problem but a minor one. Since, I am not that tall, 5.6... Therefore, 34" is definitely long for me. So, like you and other members' here, I am taking to the tailor to get it shorten to about 31" - Cost £10 (my tailor).

    Alteration Information

Gave my Mercer to the Tailor yesterday morning for the alteration, shortening of the Jean's length... Cost £12.50. However, there are two types of shortening techniques. One is "standard" and the other is "Original".

A standard hem shortening is a way the tailor will cut off the bottom of the jeans, fold it back in to recreate the hem of the jean. Whereas the Original is a way of shortening ones jeans and keeping the original hem intact by re-attaching it after shortening.

The later (original) is more expensive since is more time consuming but is a way to ensure the look.

Just thought this would be useful to anyone thinking about altering his or her Jeans.

Got the jean back this morning from the tailor, had it shorten to from 34” to 31". If anyone not sure about getting his or her, mostly his 7s in Mercer shorten by a tailor, I can say with confidence there's nothing to fear. With the "original hem" shortening, you don't even know it has been altered and it does retain the original look of the fit.
