Pea coat just not right

I was trying copy the Look of Danial Craig in the first scene of Casino Royal with the coat he had. So I got a alpha industries Pea coat. Only thing I'm not happy with is that the lapels wont stay up like Craigs Pea coat. Is there a trick to making them stay up or am I better selling up and getting a different version pea coat? mjn45032c1_aa.jpg

If you're in the US, try going by a military surplus store and checking out a government surplus Navy pea coat. The collar stays up just fine on mine and it is much better built than most of what you find for sale in the civilian market. Expect to pay around $150 plus or minus. Here's a link to an outfit that claims to have the mil-spec version.

Also, notice the government issue pea coat is a bit longer cut than the one in the picture you have.

Pyrat beat me to it. One of the best coats I've ever owned was an older surplus Navy pea coat I picked up insanely cheap (under $20!) at a Goodwill store. The collar was quite stiff, and could stand up forever.

Did anyone ever establish which brand of Peacoat DC wore in Casino Royale?

The Casino Royale pea coat is an elusive thing. Here are a couple of interesting sites which discuss this item.

Since we never see Bond in the black and white sequence stand up it is possible he had on the military style coat we see him wearing at the end of the film, but it does not look like the coat is of that length based on what can be seen when he is seated in the B&W scene, but here's a look at it for comparison.

I got a schott p coat, and the collars stay up no matter what. It was expensive at around £175, but it's the best winter coat I've ever owned.

I have a Burton Menswear one made during the days when their clotheswere decent quality! Does the job nicely and looks great.

Other than that I would seriously consider the USN surplus stock - an extremely good jacket which you can get even here in the UK if you shop around the surplus stores.

I got a pea coat from Express a few years ago. The collar sits up rather well. I don't think they make the exact same model now, but they usually have something close to a standard pea coat. Also, Express usually has good deals around the holidays (you get coupons if you buy something around November, I believe).

I picked up a very nice one from the Gap today. It was £99.95 but had 30% off bringing it down to £69.97 but I had a VIP 30% discount voucher bringing it down to £48.98.

Its navy blue as per the one in the opening CR title sequence so I'm a happy chappy today.

Was wondering through Target today and spotted this peacoat which made me think of this post, so I tried one on to see who it measured up to my Navy issue one. The wool was a bit less dense which made it softer and the buttons did not have the fouled anchor design but it was fairly close to the issue item. The collar did stand up nicely, so for $65 it wasn't a bad deal. Don't know if you have access to a Target, but here's a picture with a link to the online store.

I picked up the Target quote a couple weeks ago, just because it seemed like a good deal. The odd thing was, although it is not listed on their website at all, they had a few in navy blue, but only in size large... I called a few other stores, and nobody else had that color, and as I said, it;s not listed on the website. I needed medium, so I just stuck with black.

Seems like a really nice coat for the money.
