Product Development - Opinions Wanted

Hello everybody, we would value the input of AJB007 readers on the following;

Picture some theoretical 'small' replicas , flat items and/or a printed 2d items. Our Tarot Card replica would be a good yardstick of the type of product, but Casino Chips, Passports, ID cards and other such items would be in the same ballpark

Would you prefer;

A.) The items 'stand alone', rather like the tarot cards in a presentation box with the relevant collateral
B.) The items 'framed' into some kind of 'out of the box' ready to display solution.

We are looking at some ideas and want to see if people prefer the idea of 'loose' items they can display to their preference or having the items pre-presented.

Sorry to be so vague, and understand that it will vary from item to item. But we would love to hear opinions on this. We don't really need suggestions for products at this stage. Just feedback on the ideas for presentation

Barry

    My preference would be that smaller items came pre-presented

    I prefer to be able to touch the items. I did get a set of your tarot cards by the way. Very nice! As for framing, I like that idea as well, however, for my money, the prop would need to be removeable so I could touch it. Most of the guys I know want to be able to finger f**k a cool new prop, gun or what have you. So for me, only in a frame if it's easily removable.

    There are a huge number of paper props from the Bond films that could be reproduced very inexpensively. I'd suggest you offer these type items both ways, stand along and as collections related to the film in which they were used. This would expand your market including both those who want just specific items or are on a tighter budget and those who want a really nice display that is professionally done.

    Barry…

    You may look at it in two several different ways.

    First I can understand that a display framed prop may be a way of both marketing FE (and EON / Danjaq) but also to earn some extra profits, after all you are a business so in bottom line it is about money.

    You could also reduce coast and have it as a “stand alone” prop. This may be cheaper but more fragile in shipping.

    In essence we Bond prop freaks just want the props … sooooo I go with the “stand alone” – if I would like it framed I would do it my self….

    I say no pre-presenting. I like touchable items and if a collector wants it framed, they can easily do so on their own (besides, they will likely not want the exact frame you offer anyways)

    in my humble bumble opinion, i'd say leave it up to the collector to choose how they display items.

    the big problem with framing stuff (in my experience) is wall space. i aint got alot in my humble abode, plus theres the ominous situation with persuading the gorgeous mrs to actually let me.

    in all fairness mrs geff has said that i'm allowed a cabinet in the lounge for my stuff, but thats it, and tbh i have to agree. i love bond, obviously, but i don't wanna turn my gaff into a bond museum, its my bloody home for gawds sake. (it's not a country club).

    anyways, back to the framing idea, i'd say its not the best. i think the better way (and i may be wrong, this is just me thinking aloud) would be to have each item on its own stand/display with putting it in a cabinet, on a desk or something similar in mind. that way the loyal collector can choose which bits to put where, where they like, where space (and spouse) allows without any issues.

    the last thing you want barry is someone seeing one of your items and thinking "i'd buy that if i had somewhere to put it".

    I'would say unframed. Like many collector's I to like to touch and hold the prop. Leave the way of displaying up to the collector please.

    @Barry, thanks for asking the fans there opion.

    I agree, unframed would be the way to go. As said its nice to touch the item and if you want them framed you can get it done yourself in the style you want. Handy if you need it to match other items you have framed.

    Unframed props please, thier is something very appealing about seeing the prop in person and being able to hold it as my fellow collectors have mentioned.

    Thank you all, excellent comments and feedback.

    One of the main reasons for considering framing or some form of pre-presented solution is it helps to make object/s that in themselves might 'small' or simply paper based, more interesting. We totally agree with the points about remove-ability.

    Sadly there is a belief from some quarters that no matter how detailed or accurate you make paper items they are still only just paper and not that appealing to buyers. The opinion is that they are just not that 'exciting' , that they only appeal to the hard-core enthusiasts and we are trying to counter that.... because we love them!

    So here's another question:

    In a theoretical scene we may only see 2 or 3 denominations of an item like a gaming chip. This is all that is required for filming and so only those are created. This is not enough to play any actual game or does not represent precisely what would be used to play the game in real life. Because we are not permitted to 'create' props or variants that did not exist on screen would people still like to own something like this or would they feel something was 'missing'?

    ID cards like the one it TWINE is far from just being paper, maybe you should consider that, plus Im sure many would be interested in Passports, vintage and up to date -{

    As to the chips, I would only want the screen seen objects, I can see people would want to use in a real game, but for me it is all about what we see.

    I had sent you my zipped file of all casino chips and plaques seen across 10 Bond films, including Casino Royale '67...? Their are good possibilties for full sets, for example, the Thunderball plaques and License To Kill were in multiple denominations/colors. Some lovely pieces there. I have images of all if you need.

    A) Stand alone -- It's practical for collectors to have loose props for displays, decorations and costumes! A numbered COA makes a fine substitute for the "# X of Y" numbered signs accompanying props... though certainly clear, unlabeled displays, like the marvelous clear Golden Gun stand and heavy base you made, are great... thanks again.

    On the first question, I'm in the option A boat.

    On the incomplete props for games and other stuff. I kind of would like to see a finished set even if it wasn't finished in the movie.

    Need 'em unframed, and touchable so we can play with 'em.

    I mean. if those LALD Taror cards were in a frame, I'd never have got into the knickers of that dozy tart on Friday night by pulling out a hand of "Lovers".
