Skyfall Press Conference in brief

In SKYFALL, Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

The title Skyfall has "some emotional context". The film will be stand alone - there will be no connection to the previous two entries in the series and no Quantum. The film will be shot in the same style as the previous two, however.

There will be "lots of action" and to expect "lots of surprises", when asked about gadgets. Mendes says of film "I thought the story was fantastic, I love Daniel and Judi. This is an enormous challenge." Mendes has always been a fan of the films, with Live And Let Die being his first, but the main draw was seeing Craig in Casino Royale. Broccoli is impressed by Mendes' "boyish excitement" about the film. When asked if he is gunning for Oscars, he replies that Bond is about the audience and should only be about the audience; action needs to co-exist with the drama. Mendes doesn't rule out a further film, if he's having as much fun now as he is in 6 months time.

Craig says he's very comfortable in the role for the third time and isn't worried about being typecast as Bond, stating he's lucky enough to have good roles thrown at him. He just wants to make the best Bond film he can, and that's "Bond with a capital B". He has another shirtless scene to look forward to...

Filming locations include Pinewood, Whitehall, Argyll, Shanghai and Istanbul.

Budget will be similar to Quantum of Solace with nothing cut back. (Broccoli states "Does it look like we're cutting back?")

Berenice Marlohe to play a "glamourous enigmatic" character called Severine. Naomie Harris will play a field operative named Eve, and has been training for two months for the "rollercoaster that's about to commence", including yoga, stunt driving and how to handle machine guns. Javier Bardem will be the lead villian, and has been practising his English vowels - though remains tight lipped on his character.

Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Wishaw confirmed on cast list. Asked whether the characters will have familiar names, "they might do. Then again, they might not."

Filming begins 3rd November 2011 (that's today) in Whitehall, central London.

Unsurprisingly, no one has been chosen to write and perform the theme tune.

Lots of plans for the 50th Anniversary, but nothing to announce as yet.

James Bond is back in UK cinemas 26th October 2012.

From what I saw was just the words SKYFALL on a black background (poss in blue). The 007 logo was under it. Looked very basic, prob too early

So Naome Harries isn`t Moneypenny, but Whishaw might be Q. There has to be more girls than Marlohe, just one is not very Bonian. They are probably trying to find the right Chinese actress (and/or Turkish), I think. Was there nothing on Albert Finney?

There are two girls. Marlohe and Harris.

Helen McRory was talked about being on the cast list, but not confirmed there I notice. She'd be more the Moneypenny type, in my book.

Is the press conference online anywhere as I missed it?

    I'll make two predictions:

    1) Skyfall is the name of the Castle in Scotland (Bonds ancestral Home?)
    2) Finney takes over as the new M as Dench is killed off.

    Reeeeeeeeeeeeeally not Scottish.

I think it has more to do with M's sky falling in - remember, from the little synopsis at the beginning of the first post, this film is about her past.

Fiennes' character is "so secret" he can't be named... it must be Blofeld!

Hmm, Craig has his white stubble, beard or no beard. And yep, see he's looking rough again, rougher than he need be (sorry Lexi). I mean, he looked great a couple of months ago in that pap shot with Rachel Weisz.

Well, CLEARLY the title must be a reference to. . .Chicken Little! (I kid.) OK, all sounds good, except I cringe a bit at the thought of another M-centered story. Bernard Lee never got an ounce of this attention!

Bardem's being very secretive about his character which I have heard from a unnamed source is called "Pollopoco"

The disgraced/public official/politico angle could be pretty interesting. It may even be a chance for Bond to do some actual "spying". Maybe during the course of this mission Bond uncovers some very "troubling" intel on M's past. Also, could be an opportunity to move on from Dench as "M". Her secret/checkered past could be motivation to take MI6 out of the hands of the polititions and back to the military with the apopintment of another no nonsense former Admiral or General.

You are right, obviously. I was so used to thinking of Harries as Moneypenny, I just didn`t count her in. The fact that she isn`t Moneypenny increases the chances that Ben Whishaw is Q, I think. There has been talk of familiar names, and I hope it`s not Bloefeld. I also hope no-one uttered the horrid words "Bond` equal" when talking about Harries` role.

I'm surprised no reporter asked the one question everyone wants to know.

Is Bond Getting some Facial hair for skyfall. :))
and with the scottish element, will Bond be back in a Kilt. :v

For the record, I have never had any issues with name "Skyfall"...I think it's unique enough, and not overly wrought. Setting aside the rumours, I'm not seeing anything so far about Bond 23 that I don't like or is making me cautious. Looking forward to it!

I've just had a look at the link put up by The Mantis http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-15575609 and at around 41 seconds in he says the title has "a strong geographical physical link".

The next twelve months are going to be agonising, roll on the teaser trailers.

Intriguing! Though I can't really see it being the name of the house itself. A play on those words, perhaps, there's a few mountains not too far from here that have the Norse -fell as an ending, and of course there is the Isle of Skye, but Skyfall is a little too anglicised for anything in this part of the world with historical significance. Though they did say in the press conference there would be a 'strong Scottish connection', which for me is particularly exciting. You never know, though (and I am warming to the idea the more I think about it)! Here's the house in question, Duntrune Castle, Lochgilphead:

    duntrune-castle.jpg

As I've said elsewhere, I intend on taking the short hop over when filming begins and if it's anything like the recent World War Z and Cloud Atlas filming that's taken place in Glasgow then there will be some proper stuff and stars to see (the latter including former Bond girl Halle Berry).

It is going to be an interesting year though!

I actually like this logo. It is monumental in style, fitting the title itself.

I agree. Sadly he really wasn't looking his best. When I saw those shots from a couple of months back I thought he nailed the look. The hair was a fraction longer, and he was tanned and more youthful looking. Today he looked a bit rough, and indeed in need of a rest. Perhaps the first scenes being shot are a bit DAD like in as much as he is meant to look like he's had a rough time. I do hope so...

He wasn't necessarily going straight from there to shoot the entire film, you know... So he turns up to the press conference with a bit of stubble, I'm sure he'll have a shave and comb his hair before doing some scenes with M...

I enjoyed watching the press conference and I'm really looking forward to the movie. I am a bit disappointed that Naomie Harris isn't going to be Moneypenny, though. My guess is that she will be a "sacrificial lamb" like Strawberry Fields. Pity.
