Fleming letters and the choice of Moonraker as a title...

One thing I regret not attempting to collect more vigorously is the letters and correspondence of Fleming and others related to the Bond franchise.

I have a few, packed away, and this find might inspire me to dig them out.

I spotted this when reading the sites comments about the new B23 omega (sorry even the spell nazi on my iPad changes skyfall to sickjoke so I'll type B23 and everyone's happy :) ).

It links  to this,

Which takes you to this...

Which shows a letter from IF to his publishers discussing the next title after LALD.....

And the evolution of the Moonraker final choice...

There are many theories as to why Moonraker was chosen as the name of Drax's  project - a missile defense of Britain - but my own favorite relates to Flemings knowledge of an old Wiltshire legend, that of the moonrakers ..

This act of deception will have no doubt amused Fleming, and seems to me to fit the plot.

Enjoy...

Great reading, B-) I've also been told that the topmost sail of an old sailing ship was called the Moonraker. :)

The Letters of Note site has a few other Fleming related letters too. You can find them if you do a search. It is a pretty interesting site. I follow it via twitter and he posts some interesting letters.

There is a Moonrakers public house in Devizes, Wiltshire just as you go south east from the centre of town.
It is at 29 Nursteed Road, Devizes. SN10 3AJ.
Related to raking ponds-not the Bond film!
