Excellent work on the footwear. I was wondering what Bond would wear in the country, the Islay makes sense. A very attractive winter boot for those of use who don't like our winter boots to look like winter boots! Do you have a price on the Islay?

Hard to say. For me everything costs way more because it has to be imported and slightly modified for my feet by my stockist due to my foot trouble. You can just email C&J and ask them and they can quote you. There are stores you can buy directly from in the US and the UK. I'm not sure about the fitting of the boots in this case. It looks very similar to my C&J Pembroke but I can't be sure. You just have to ask.

Just pulled the trigger on the Tetburys, my Church leather chukka alternatives do not have Rubber sole hence these will be used a hell of a lot more!!!!

£295 delivered outside EU was the best price I could find!

Anybody believe he wears the Highburys in the Casino Tux or something more high end?

Sheesh if he is wearing 3 pairs of C&J shoes / boots then I get a feeling we may be seeing a Podcast soon on the shoes of skyfall :))

Must admit after all the Tom Ford doom and gloom $$$$ of Skyfall things have not turned out too bad at all!

So you went for the brown suede version or the black leather as seen with the Skyfall suit, Welshie? (Haven't been keeping tabs on this thread for a few days!)

I went with the black leather since I have the Church Ryders in Brown Suede!!

I'm happy to see Bond go with Crockett & Jones for a change. I find them better-made and the lasts more elegant than Church's, and at a lower price too. But I'm a bit surprised they didn't go with the Handgrade line of shoes. The bench-grade shoes are still excellent, but still a step or two down (depending on the model) from the John Lobb Paris shoes in Casino Royale.

Exactly. I still plan to pick up two more boots from C&J. A Chukka in Dark Brown Suede and the Skye. Daniel Craig has worn his Skye boots in other movies like TGWTDT and he has been pictured in the Chukka before but they might have been another brand that looked the same. Either way it's not every day you can honestly say that you found a shoe maker that makes all of your shoes for life. I'm happy to say I did.

Yeah except it doesn't fit my feet correctly so it has to be a special order. It's going to cost me the price of up to 3 shoes/boots.

You must have some ginormous feet then. I wouldn't even buy them if every time you had to order them you had to get them altered on top of your initial order.

I have a fallen arch so my feet look very wide and flat. Out of all the shoes I have ever worn the only one that doesn't hurt my back/feet and gives full arch support is my Pembroke. I don't even need to wear a custom insole that costs $500. The shoes are just so perfect in providing the right type of support and my stockist and I worked it out over the phone/email/pictures. He is in BC and I'm in Ontario.

The alternation is very minor. The stockist inserts an insole that is thicker at the back and very shallow at the end. He has to glue a layer of leather on the bottom of a nice soft insole to get the proper effect. The shoes themselves are not touched. This is done to adjust the height of your feet. Regardless of how expensive you get shoe makers don't take height into account unless you go Bespoke.

On top of that he has to adjust what size of shoes he orders and if he can order them for my feet at all. Some simply won't work with my type of feet. As it stands the Skye falls into that category due to the shape of the sole.

The Tetbury in contrast has a longer arch compared to the Pembroke I wear so I have to go a half size down. I'm actually worried because of how wide my feet are and the Tetbury is a narrower style. Trying to correct a fallen arch is nasty business.

Anyway my Tetbury and Snowdon come in later this week. I should have them to try on by the end of next week the latest.

I think also that the Islay will be worn at the Lodge scene. It makes Sense and the Boots Looks great with the Barbour jacket and very cool 60s Style!

For my German Fellas: The Shoe-Company "Goertz 17" have a large Range on Crockett&Jones Shoes including Tetbury, Alex etc. You can only buy the exklusive Brands in the Shop not Online!
I saw them in the Hamburg and Cologne-Store.

I've seen the boot and it looked like the Islay, not that I knew it was Islay at the time, so hey presto.

Just by way of cross reference, I would normally be a UK 9 medium all day, everyday, but with the Tetbury (which is a 348 last) I got sized in the shop as an 8.5 Medium (D), as the last is quite long. Which obviously you can see.

Great work by the way, and the Tetbury are great.

i normally wear a UK size 10, but in the Tetbury i bought the 9 1/2, the 10 was just a little too big
  • ExpatJBExpatJB HoustonPosts: 752MI6 Agent
Personally I think the 348 is a longer narrow last and obviously your feet aren't going to the end.

For my medium width feet the length meant the 8.5 was best fit. If you have broader feet and you try a medium you could end getting a size larger, when maybe you needed broader?

    Maybe?

You need to contact a specialist that can answer that. Check with one of the UK stores and see what they say. They can be surprisingly helpful.

In the budget category for the Islay boots, H&M has one that is very close. They are "imitation" leather but 59.00 vice several hundred so they may be a good budget pick. H&M shoes seem to get surprisingly good reviews.
