Any chance for re-releases for the 50th Anniversary

Does anyone think there is a chance that EON will re-release any of the classic Bond films at the cinema during 2012? When asked at the Skyfall press conference, Babs and MGW kind of looked at each other, but I didn’t read anything from it. Do you think a limited 2-week run for one of the earlier films such as Dr. No or Goldfinger would be financially viable? I mean they wouldn't do it if they wouldn't make some cash. It worked for Lucas with IV, V, and VI. But then again they had new visual effects which drew people to the theater.

I think it is certainly something you can do in a financially modest fashion. Limited rereleases are not that uncommon, so major cities could easily get a night of Bond. Lord of the Rings just recently did a rerelease in select locations to celebrate the extended blu rays. I would really enjoy a Bond classic returning to theaters for the 50th.

I have seen re-releases of some of the Connery Bonds in recent history but at specialty theaters with old prints. Would love to see re-releases of some of the Connery Bonds in conjunction with the 50th anniversary. Better still with re-mastered prints. That would be, as they say, "da bomb".

Unlikely, they'd want all the expectation to be on Skyfall I'd have thought. In any event, it would be only in London. But I've been wrong before. If it was just London and Imax, then it wouldn't have a neg impact on the main event. But I think they reissue stuff to keep the Bond flame going, not when it already doing okay.

They would indeed....but they cost.... - about £15000 a print, before you spend more money re-mastering them - a few years ago they made digital prints of a couple of the films - cost £50 - and showed them around the country, charging £5 for admission....more chance of that happening I reckon....

I hope that MGM will put some of the older films out for a limited rerelease, after all people flocked to see Ghostbusters during its limited run last month. I am sure that Bond would sell some tickets. I hope that if MGM does make this happen, that a cinema near me (in the state of ME) will be showing it.
