Bond in 5.11 gear

Was looking up the new Walther PPQ (while falling in love with the P5), and wondering - would we see Bond in tactical 5.11 gear? As I work on an Army base, I see some of the retired guys (and even a few young soldiers) sporting these, and while they often size them poorly (I tried on a pair true-to-size), I could see Bond wearing these, if they were a little dressier.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, take a look:

Personally, I've never been a fan of 5.11 clothes. I've seen them come and go in all my travels in and out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, the Balkens, etc. Most of my colleagues here are wearing the stuff in one fashion or another and I see where it's not holding up so well. The other thing is that whenever you see someone wearing them, you can immediately peg them as Intel or Spec Ops or worst yet, a wannabee. Same uniform.....tan pants, light shirt, tan ball cap with subdued flag, Oakleys, and the ever present "Shoot Me First" tan vest. Pretty much what we've coined is the ABC look (Always Be Cool). Just my opinion.

In the novel Carte Blanche, Bond wears 5.11 tactical pants. They are common in law enforcement circles on this side of the pond and are most often worn for tactical operations. They are also worn by New Agents at the FBI Academy, National Academy guys also wear them at Quantico. They used to wear Royal Robbins (tactical pants) with a royal blue shirt. National Academy guys wore a green shirt. There is another federal alphabet agency that houses its Academy on the FBI campus. However the BAT's (Basic Agent Trainees) for that agency wear wear black BDU pants that are bloused with black boots.

Interesting. As a broadcast engineer, the additional pockets, alone, appeal to me, especially when I'm carrying two phones in addition to my wallet, and any tools (while wearing my Gerber or Leatherman on my belt).

I imagine shoes would be a problem, as boots would stand out like a sore thumb...

... as for the cinematic Bond, the only time I can think these would have worked would have been in Madagascar or in Bolivia. Agreed?

Here is a picture of one of my 5.11 tactical pants in this thread about the Madagascar shirt. Third from the top. It goes well with the shirt, however for undercover work like Bond is engaged in in that scene, it sticks out like a sore thumb. Of course, Bond undercover in Madagascar sticks out like a sore thumb never mind his pants.

Great post. Yeah, that fits right in, but I was reading some threads about how the pants do stand out pretty badly.

I was looking at the covert pants, with the hidden pockets, but there is certainly a difference in fashion and functionality, and the two are almost mutually exclusive.

Additionally, most of the other federal law enforcement agencies (USSS, ICE/HSI, ATF, etc.) that train Agents at FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center) in Glynco, Georgia also wear some form of 5.11's in varying colors. They are good to wear while training and for tactical ops, but to operate covertly, they are no good.

Most, if not all, of the Federal LE agencies training at FLETC are uniformed services so covert is not a consideration.

No, not all. Criminal Investigators who train at FLETC are not uniformed. For instance the USSS has a uniformed division but the Special Agents (Criminal Investigators) or 1811's do not wear uniforms in the field. So yes people like Capitol Police, Park Rangers, BOP etc. wear uniforms and yes there are more of them then Special Agents (1811's) at FLETC. However the discussion was about the covert wear of 5.11 tactical pants not wether there is more uniformed LEO training than 1811 training at FLETC.
