Holy crap! I'm not an Adele fan (I'm trying really hard to resist the mass fandom) but the Bond theme in it sounds so kicka$$!

    i do love her voice...and her beautiful face...and her...ok, i'm a fan... :007)

Nice to hear they've returned to a more classical style Bond song. Very well done in my opinion. This only furthers my hopes that they've really taken the 50th anniversary into account and are doing their best to bring a classic Bond film to the screen.

I love it! The best 007 theme since 1995's Goldeneye by Tina Turner.
What more is there to say?

Anyone know what date it will be released on good ole fashioned CD?

I guess I must be the requisite 'that guy' in this crowd, the one who isn't terribly enthused by it. It sounds like a 'paint by numbers' Bond song.

Anyone play the Bond game, 'Blood Stone'? It had its own 'Bond Theme' and opening titles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oykkoRHOUAc

The Adele song sounds about as good as Blood Stone to me. Both created purposefully to sound like Bond themes of past eras.

Not to say it's bad - it isn't - but I don't see this one topping 'You Know My Name' on my favs list. B-)

    Sorry mate, totally disagree.
Adele is fresh, of the times and worthy of Craig's best effort as Bond which I certainly think SKYFALL is going to be!

Am I the crazy anti-spoiler guy who is waiting to hear it in the title sequence context?

Definitely an echo of Diamonds Are Forever, for me. Like it!

I agree it's better than any other Bond theme song since GoldenEye.

But it's not as good as GoldenEye. I'm still not a fan. I maintain that the last true "classic" Bond theme song was GoldenEye.

I quite like it But would like to hear more of it, and thanks to My local radio station I can. They've been playing Skyfall
since yesterday, according to my wife ( I'm more a BBC Radio 4 man ) :))
I'll try and catch it some morning.

It is actually a pretty good song. I think all of the little misconceptions have been grounded and I'm starting to get a little giddy over it now. :)

Different strokes, I guess. To my ears, it sounds so much like a generic mashup Bond theme that I'd almost swear I heard the song before.

I guess that's okay for the 50th anniversary. But I get the feeling, sometimes, that a lot about Bond seems to be stuck in the 60's/70's, because that's when the movies as a phenomenon were at their height. I'm a literary Bond fan first, so I think of Bond mostly as a product of the 1950's - none of this swinging 60's-jazz stuff.

Also, I always cringe a little when they try to shovel the name of the movie in the title song. Sometimes they get away with it, sometimes it's really awkward. Goldfinger, sure - it's a straightforward descriptive song about the villain, but when Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey croon about Thunderball and Moonraker... well, let's just say that they're decent, musically, but really clumsy, lyrically. 'He strikes like Thunderball?' Thunderball was the name of the joint US-British operation to locate Blofeld's nukes and put them out of commission... 8-)

Perhaps my least favorite example of this is 'I've got a License to Kill... and you know I'm goin' straight for your heart...'

I'm glad Chris Cornell didn't attempt to sing about the 'Casino Royale'. :))

Thank you, that one works! I think everything is high quality - there is nothing wrong with it. BUT there is also very little that is distinctive about it. After listening to it it a couple of times I miss the signature sound or melody that stays in your mind. Remember the strings in YOLT, the synth opening of TLD or even the melody of You know my name? Apart from the Bond theme, I remember nothing particular from this song. I remember it was well sung and it sounded like a classic Bond theme song, but that's it. I haven't heared the whole thing yet, but my impression is competent and safe - but indistinctive.

Agree completely. I always hated the thunderball lyrics to be honest. As you say, sounds awkward.

I have therefore recorded it as a voice memo onto my iPhone!!!

Heard the 30 seconds but the sound is worse than terrible on my office computer so I'll have to reserve judgement.
From what I can tell it certainly is in the classic style of Bond themes past. Again, I need to withhold judgement, but I guess I just have to come to grips with the reality that the golden era of the Barry penned themes are gone along with the scores reflecting those themes. I am actually much more interested in David Newman's score which will have a much more profound effect on the film.

Thanks for this. I thought it sounded pretty good. Certainly a wise move to move away from the last two rockier sounds in favour of a breathy ballad. Adele's an artist I've never been all that keen on but her vocals have a nice sultry quality.

I don't really look at Bond songs in the same way as other tunes. A bit like the films, they operate in their own bubble & I never think of them as potential chart-toppers. Each one needs to compliment the film & I think the overall vibe is that SKYFALL is definitely going for a 'classic' approach. A lot of thought has clearly gone into this production & it's to everyone's credit that they're taking their time on this after the QUANTUM OF SOLACE rush-job. Sam Mendes is proving to be a director of very good taste indeed.

All we need now is a quality Thomas Newman score. I wonder if he'll find a space to incorporate the SKYFALL theme? David Arnold made good use of 'You Know My Name' in CASINO ROYALE. It'll be interesting to see if Newman does the same, even though he appears to have had no hand in writing it.
