The producers attempt to refresh things mean going after the younger generation who don't know much about or like previous Bond movies.

I think that's a very general and sweeping statement there Silentspy that excludes anyone under the age of what...30, 40? So, young people don't have the knowledge and they dislike all the previous Bonds?

Really? Wow.....Bond is/should be only for people in their 40's and over....??

    okaaaaay :#

It might be a general and sweeping statement but I've noticed the overly used "dated" words when people talk about older Bond films. That they don't have enough action. That the action scenes aren't realistic. The films look old because of the different coloring techniques. Maybe one has to enjoy movies and not just want to go to movies to really get older films. If that makes sense.

I agree with Silent Spy. I'm seventeen years old and the older Bonds are some of my favorites! DC's films are only okay but all my friends love em. I enjoyed CR very much but QoS was ok. Point is, I'm very young compared to a lot of people here, and I appreciate the films so much, regardless of their age.

Do you think that by casting Ben Whishaw as Q they have looked at the Auggie character in the US series Covert Affairs? Auggie is played by Christopher Gorham and has that kind of geeky role in the series -the other quirk to his character although he is a genius, is that he is also blind in the part. Obviously Q isn't. However they do have a similarity about them I think in terms of look.

I think this 'Q' look is a great departure, and I also summise that the relationship between the new 'Q' and Bond will at least be similar. I'm only judging by the pic of course but Bond appears in that picture to be 'resigned' to listening to 'Q' and would rather be elswhere, in the same way as he was in Goldfinger when 'Q' kept him for an hour or so to talk about the the DB5.

Kind of looks that way to me anyway, although I may be reading too much into one still shot!

Perhaps they looked at the Maurice Moss character played by Richard Ayoade in the (UK) Channel 4 series The IT Crowd. :D

I think that any actor would of been compared to the fantastic Desmond, so I think
the Producers decided to side step this by Bringing in a totally different type of character.
They could of gone with a female Q. Although apart from a few jokes, I'll wait to see
what the chemistry between Him and Bond is like. Hope they keep a bit of the old
Q not liking Bond breaking his toys. :007)
Most IT guys seem very young these days so I suppose he is in keeping with the real
    world.

I'll reserve judgement until I see the film. Wasn't a big fan of John Cleese as "Q" (actually "Q's" successor). I pretty much agree with Thunderpussy on this one. There is potential for some tension and humor between Bond and younger "Q". DC's Bond being ex military commando now MI6 assassin/ provocateur/blunt instrument and a younger very unmilitary like techno geek.

To make Q a Gen-Y computer geek seems a bit too obvious -- just about every action movie or show already has this, though often a female. It also changes the dynamic of the character. In the original films, Bond had something of a family. M was the loving but disapproving father, Moneypenny was the girl next door, Q was the cantankerous uncle. With Judith Dench's M, the father became the mother, so the dynamic remains essentially the same, but Q looks like he's going to be the irritating younger brother or nephew, putting Bond in the role of the older sage. All this makes sense since Gen-Y is predominantly now the audience for the films, but Bond loses one of his surrogate parental mentors.

When I saw Ben Whishaw in The Hour I immediately saw a potential Q in him. He is interesting, comes accross as smart, quirky and is a really good actor. His age is not that important. What is important is what will the writers give him to do? If has to present iPhone apps and invisible cars to Bond and is written as a young computer geek, he will do his best as an actor to make the role come alive. But Q will be a disapointment. If he is written as a smart and interesting man who happens to be young and works with specialist weapons and inventive and useful gadgets, Whishaw will give us a first rate Q.

Everything No 24 said. I saw Whishaw in the first of the BBC's Shakespeare series entitled "The Hollow Crown" as King Richard II. A lovely performance, he played the characters nuances (and deluded self assurance) very well. He was playing against Rory Kinnear amongst others, the caliber of the performances was high!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

African american Felix Leiter, Female M, Teenage Q

The people making the Craig films are getting really creative with the series that they cant even stay true to the books :/

What next are they gonna turn Moneypenny into a guy?

I'm rather unsure about this. I'm all for change and all, but I just don't know about a young Q. I've always pictured Q as like a wise old man, and kind of like a father figure to bond who loses his temper. This wouldn't work as well with a young person.

M as a woman? Yes. Leiter black? Why not? But Q young? Hmmm...

I guess you can't knock it 'til you see it though!

I was also wondering If Bond keeps a House in Scotland,Then he'd need someone to
look after it when he's away sorting out the water shortage in Bolivia or something.
So Might, along with Q and a possible Moneypenny, Might we see the first apperance
    of a certain Housekeeper? :007)
Oh it would be fun to see Bond and M entering the old house Only to have May spit
in a hanky to rub a spot of Dirt off Bonds face saying.
" Lord, it's good to have you Back Master James "
as Bond slaps off her hands, Seeing M she adds
" What's this Master James, was it grab a Granny night in the Glencoe arms " :))

I doubt I'd need to put a spoiler alert with this. :D
