Bonds Dumbass moments!

Thought this may be a bit of a fun topic! What are Bonds most stupidest mistakes in the films?

I always found it funny how completely useless he is in Goldfinger.

1. He gets two women killed with his carelessness (And one just to get laid)
2. He stupidly falls for a mirror trick planted by oddjob while driving his car out of the base
3. He nearly ends up being blown to bits by spending to much time contemplating which wires to cut on the bomb in fort knox (He didn't even cut the wire in the end!)

Bond's foray to Dr. No's island seemed really careless. He didn't bring water, food, spare ammo, or even a holster for his Walther. And what exactly was the point of launching an assault on the dragon tank? Also, killing one of No's men in the stream didn't really serve a purpose except to get a reaction shot from Honey Rider.

I hate the bit in TMWTGG, where on helping Bond escape the two schoolgirls and their Uncle Drive off leaving Bond behind. It just seems so Dumb.

I don't think that it is a mirror trick that Oddjob created. It is just a traffic mirror for the trucks in factory traffic. (Why a traffic mirror would not be turned at a 45-degree angle is a different question.)
But generally Connery's driving was pretty lousy. He was suffering from leadfree-foot desease, a severe muscular weakness that prevents the right foot putting adequate pressure onto the accelerator pedal. You can see it first in Dr. No where he cannot put some distance between him in a nimble sportscar and a 3-ton pre-war hearse - and that on a twisty mountain road! Thank god some road-building equipment was standing in the way, or the James Bond series of films would have been a short one.

By the time they filmed Goldfinger his condition has gotten worse. He can't even outrun three Mercedes Pontons which combined have less horsepower than his Aston Martin! When you add that the car is outfitted with smoke screen, oil slick, bulletproof glass and rear screen, even ejector seat and machine guns, this is a truly remarkable achievement of the Mercedes drivers! Used all those gadgets, and he ends up captured like before!

Oh, how I wish they had cut all this stupid Aston Martin gadget stuff! Goldfinger would have been a far better film! ;)

You are right, same thing goes for the pts boat chase in TWINE. How many times does Bond's nippy speedboat catch up with a cruiser ffs, only him to be 50m away in the next shot? 8-)

The scene where he turns down the chance to nob the ice skater in FYEO, that's pretty dumb. Mind you, so was she. :D

you make a great point! not only does he just bring one magazine, but he doesn't bring any supplies whatsoever. in relation to that, Bond never seems to carry more then one magazine outside of a undercover mission, in TLD during the end fight with Whittaker is a great example, other examples are the end fight in GE and TSWLM, where one spare mag for his PPK would have made things alot easier.

It seems a bit or very stupid, that two secret agents like James Bond and hip, can not put a car engine running without the keys

I never realized it, but you're right about Bond never carrying spare ammo. After all, how hard is it to carry an extra magazine for a PPK? It's a pretty small, light magazine, even fully loaded.

CR, Bond tells Carter he needs the bomber alive, spends all that time chasing him only to shoot him and nick his holdall containing
his phone,so why not just shoot him to start with and nick the holdall.

I disagree with this one. Ideally, Bond did want to capture the bomber. However, when it became obvious that this wasn't possible because the bomber was going to receive sanctuary at the embassy, Bond decided it was better to kill him instead of letting him go free.

In TND when he is called away from Carvers party to take a phone call. So obviously a trap yet he lets himself be lead into a room and get punched a few times before fighting back.

I disagree. While he was shadowing the bomber and also when Bond was chasing him, Bond had a reasonable chance to capture him. If he let the bomber go during the scene in the backyard of the embassy, the bomber would be protected because of the armed guards and the political asylm system. At that point Bond had to kill him or loose him for along time, perhaps forever.

Wouldn`t you say Bond was aiming for Jaws` head and hitting the teeth? So it`s a silly scene, but not a dumb desecision on Bond`s part.

Yes that part made no sense. They randomly show up, then they just leave. But that still doesnt bug me as much as the horrid slide whistle during the car jump. They turned an interesting stunt into a roadrunner cartoon.

    A few more of mine:

    1. Connery's one piece baby blue short shorts jumper in GF
    2. Connery doing the "making out with myself" thing in DAF
    3. Kananga inflating and exploding at the end of LALD
    4. The bird doing a double take in MR
    5. A love scene between Grace Jones and an elderly Roger Moore in AVTAK
    6. Moore's bell bottoms in his later gun barrel scene
    6. Pretty much all of DAD
