Films you're hotly anticipating this Christmas!

It never rains but it snows.

After a summer of not very consequential movies, we have a few biggies over the Xmas period.

1) The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Big for Bond fans, as Craig is in it, could be his first non-Bond blockbuster. Opening titles very Bondian, though that is drawing flak.

2) MI: Ghost Protocol

Tom Cruise isn't the name he used to be, maybe the reason his face is hidden in a hoodie on the poster, but this is big blockbuster stuff with the set pieces Bond won't do these days.

3) Sherlock Holmes

The last film was terrific, get-out-the-house Boxing Day fare, This new one looks a bit silly from the trailor, in fact like those daft 1960s 70s films with Dick van Dyke and Black Edwards directing, but still worth a look.

4) The Artist

That silent film getting all the praise, from Bond spoofer Jean Dujardin.

Apols if they've opened Stateside already, but these are some great films to catch.

    Of the four you mentioned only The Artist interests me. I would add Stephen Spielberg's War Horse to the list, I am interested in that film. Not too many WW1 films have been made, hopefully Spielberg is back in form.

    1. The Adventures of Tintin

    I grew up as a Tintin fan. I've read every comic book, I've seen the animated TV episodes, and now, it's on the big screen, and I can hardly wait!

    2. War Horse

    Trailer sounds interesting. I'm a bit of a British history buff as well.

    3. Sherlock Holmes

    4. Tower Heist

    Might turn out to be a bad film, but the trailer for that was hilarious. I just hope they haven't exhausted the jokes in the trailer leaving the film totally predictable and unfunny.

    I think J. Edgar opened before Thanksgiving. It's still playing in some places. I'll have to catch it before it's out of the theaters.

    I'm going to see Sherlock 2 this Christmas. First time I've actually been to see a film at the pictures since August 2004. :o

    I saw it yesterday and I liked it also. Had a strong Bond feeling to it:
    The beautiful and exotic locations (Dubai), the masterplan from the villain to destroy the whole world (if that isn't bondish :)) ), the glamorous party scene where the Astons', Ferraris etc. stood in front of the building and all the people inside with smoking and the ladies with robes, the gadgets and the bmw concept car.

    I would prefer watching an old Columbo or Hercule Poirot instead of Holmes, looks very fake and «silly».

    Did you happen to see the 6 minute prologue to The Dark Knight Rises? If so, did you like it?

    Yes I did. Although not a big Batman fan, it looked very good. Bane seems to be the central bad guy. Very dark, and the stunts were awesome!

    I for one enjoyed Sherlock Holmes 2, a great thrill ride of a Film, Pure entertainment. now to watch MI4 over christmas. :D

    'The Artist' is great fun. Saw it at the London Film Festival. It's a real crowdpleaser despite being in B&W and silent.

    Will catch the big three movies (Sherlock, MI, and The Girl with the Thingy) at some point.

    Only big release I've seen in December is 'A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas' which is great. As hilariously offensive as the others but also quite touching. Harold and Kumar have drifted apart and are no longer friends but a Christmas miracle brings them back together. Highly recommended.

    Oh and 'Hugo' which is a lecture about the history of cinema disguised as a kids movie. It's like giving a kid a watercolour painting set for an Xmas present when they really want an X-box.

    Is Hugo a noisy, full-on sort of film? Could I take my frail, out of it 78 year old (but seems older) Mum to it? I suppose the 3D would freak her out too.

    Not too noisy. No fast editing or such like. It's quite old-fashioned and tasteful. The 3D works really well. Not the most exciting of films though.

    Wow, I saw this being mentioned on Film 2011 - with the roundup of 2011's best movies... and I have to say, out of the ones mentioned, this is one I would like to see....it looks really intriguing.

    Saw Arthur Christmas yesterday with my son Oliver.... great movie, although the script really was for older kids (Oliver is 6) but he still enjoyed it.. and the 3D was great :D

    Can't bear him. Got the type of face you never tire of punching. The minute I see his name attached to a film its a no no for me. The only film I really liked him in was 'Interview With A Vampire'

    Aw, what about Risky Business?

    I loved Minority Report, but yeah, he's not a versatile star/actor is he? And the theme of the new one seems kind of like most of 'em - been framed, has to prove innocence blah blah.

    I cannot stand Mr. Cruise either, but I have to say I did enjoy Top Gun, Risky Business, Rain Man, A Few Good Men, Minoruty Report and War of the Worlds. Have hated all the MI movies.

    Have just seen Sherlock 2 and it's pretty good, I feel I need to watch it again though (which I'm not doing at cinema prices!). I prefer the first one at the moment although I am happy to say that it doesn't really fall into sequel territory which is good.

    Other than that it's MI4 and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (although I know nothing about the latter!).

    Not sure what to make of The Iron Lady. Will have to see a few trailers and things first. She looks the part though.

    Will definitely see MI4 , probably catch Sherlock, but I avoid American remakes of European movies like the plague.

    Cruise is 5'7 though his bio claims he is 5'9. Craig's got at least 4 inches on him.
