Time for a project, bob's pin anyone?

Right, time for some fun.

It's all kinda slowed up recently on the prop side if things and gone all lardee-dar gunner graham with clothes and stuff. Now I know you guys love ya tom ford socks and sunspel budgie smugglers, but as more a prop and gadget kinda guy, I thought I'd bring back a little prop influence into the ajb boards.

So I've been looking into running something that might interest some of you guys.

The basic plan is an exclusive run of 10 lapel pins like the one worn by Sir Robert King in TWINE.

The pin would be supplied in a leatherette box like in the film and be made by a professional English jeweller. It would be cast in solid 925 silver and feature 2 turquoise stones.

Price is looking like around £3-400 each

I'd like people to also know this is NOT a profit making project. I'm doing it to revive the interest in props n stuff and get a bit more discussion prop wise going.

So the first step is gauging interest. If there's enough people up for it then I'll organise it, if not then fair do's.

I know it's not a great time of year to be coughing up large sums so I'm planning this for end if jan, maybe early feb. You'd need to put half the amount down as a deposit and settle the balance when the pins are ready to ship.

So one simple question, who's interested?

As a Scot, someone who's sirname begins with "K", and a Bond fan - I think this is a terrific idea!

Although I am afraid I am about as financially viable as exploding metal detecting grouce. I will have to sit and watch once again. Hmph.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

    Hello Geff,

you know, that I appreciate your skills and your projects.

I always enjoy, when you come up with a new project and am tempted to hit the "interested" button.

But the mentioned pin - however well it'll be done by you and your man - is very, very low on my list.

Why not spend your time and talent to something more related to Bond himslef - such as a Moonraker camera :v

Geff, I think its a very exciting project and idea...don't get discouraged but I agree with others that it might be a bit precious for now...but I like the idea, even though I am one of the budgie smuggling clothing discussion guys......wink... :007)

Lol takes all sorts Dave. While the lardee-dar quip is a tongue firmly in cheek moment, I'm just trying to bring something back to the forum more prop related.

Well bear the project in mind guys, I'll be open to suggestions at any time.

And Markus, in not making that bloody camera....... Yet.

Probably one to be put on the back-burner for a few months then revived in 2012?

Decided I want another Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean (regret selling mine) so concentrating on getting on early next year first.

As we discussed MG, it's out of the price range of most on here .....

But you know I'm in and I would suggest a bit more pics/drawings and research to whet the appetites ....

thats the main issue paul, as i'd be only handing over pics like the one you've posted to the jeweller. i'm rest assured that the finished item would be virtually identical, and the more made, the cheaper they become.

with people mentioning dupont cufflinks for £150 and TF $2k suits, i thought £300 for a very exclusive item would be a fair deal tbh, but like i said before, theres no mark up on them, the price is straight from the jeweller.

maybe i should touch base with them to get some more up to date prices? silver has fluctuated since the last quote, but maybe its worth a call?

i just don't want to go wasting anyone's time, its one of thoughs situations where you can't avoid getting someone's hopes up, ie either forum member putting their hand up for one, or the jeweller anticipating an order.

but on the bright side, it being just organised by me leaves me free to get on with other matters, ahoy hoy ;)

Does it have to be silver? Was the original made of silver? Maybe a less expensive metal? Just thinking out loud...

    Hmmm, silver plated brass?

    Pewter perhaps?

I believe the original to be cast in solid sterling, but for us guys I guess the look is the most important.

I did think about doing the pin after the blast, so you'd get a before and after kinda thing going on.

    Thoughts?

Silver would be the ideal option but pewter could be a realistic alternative to keep price down maybe?
