Magnoli Brosnan Suit order

Well, today I will finally order my Brosnan Suit from Magnoli Clothiers. I'm looking forward to it. I'm also buying the Hamburg tie and a custom shirt. I was just wondering if there was anything special I need to know or do? I've never purchased anything from Magnoli.

Also, I was going to try this suit as both a TND Hamburg, and TWINE Bilbao suit, any comments on this? Even though the Bilbao suit is a little different from the TND Hamburg.

I have two suits and a shirt from Magnoli. He's a wonderful tailor. Make sure your measurements are correct.

The order has been placed. I'm excited. will post pictures as soon as it comes in.

I decided on a pair of black lace up Allen Edmonds shoes, Clifton model, to go with this suit. I purchased those the other day. I had always wanted a pair of Allen Edmonds, i think they should go well with the suit. particularly the "Hamburg" tie and sky blue shirt.

Not to my knowledge, I was focusing on Bond's suits for the moment. Seems like something that could be looked into though...

Can't wait to see the whole outfit. It seems to me that the 3rd button is less rolled/hidden than in the movie, maybe I'm wrong.

Toutbrun, i would agree with that, it does look less rolled. I picked the suit up from the cleaners and had to try it on...sorry for the poor images and yes my shirt is too long, I haven't picked up the shirt i want yet. I think this shirt matches the color from the film rather well, any comments?

It looks pretty good. Do the trousers have turn-ups like Bond's? They are too long, unless you just forgot your belt. And only the middle button should be fastened. From the trouser crease it looks like these trousers have forward pleats, as opposed to reverse pleats (the standard type of pleats) like on Brosnan's trousers. Which kind of pleats does this suit have?

Thanks Toutbrun, overall im happy with it.

Matt, thanks for the pointers. It ws an oversite on my part for the long pants, i certainly didnt want them too short either. I pretty much ordered the Brosnan suit with little modifications...so it does have forward pleats, as opposed to reverse pleats. Yes the suit does have turn ups. This is my first "tailored" suit i am relatively new at this.

And Matt thanks for the shirt pointers, im the one who emailed you yesterday. Ill be getting one of those CT shirts soon.

The tie is too long. It should end at the top of the belt.
What colour did you order the suit in? Charcoal?
  • DTSNEO6DTSNEO6 U. S. A.Posts: 115MI6 Agent
Yes, the color is charcoal. I tied it a couple of times, i was trying it on, just picked it from cleaners :))
ill be sure to end it at the top of the belt...thanks for the pointers!

I commend your choice of forward pleats over reverse pleats. They are better all around.

I have to be honest, it is not the best fitting suit on you.

IMHO the shoulder should be pulled in by a inch, there's too much room in the chest area (you can see it's not laying flat against your chest, but "hovering over". It is especially apparent when the jacket is unbuttoned), and overall length of the jacket is too long, throwing off the proportion. Like other members here has mentioned, the pants are too long.

I'm sorry to have to have to point this out, but I thought I will be honest. It took me several attempts before I got my online order suits to fit the way they should (from Magnoli, Baron Boutique etc.), but I've learnt a lot from the experiences. If there's one advice I can give, is to be slightly stingy with your measurements. I always round down when I'm measuring for suits, as it looks better fitted than baggy. Not by too much, but a few millimetres or half an inch makes alot of difference.

I agree. It's very well made and looks cool, just needs pinching in a few places. :)

thanks for all the pointers, and pointing out all my mistakes... :))

this was my first one and i'll definitely keep all these pointers for next time.

Are there any of these that could possibly be fixed by a tailor?...just curious, if not ill just keep it the way it is. :D

All of it can be fixed by a tailor. They take off the rack clothes (which is what the suit looks like) and adjust them all the time.

    Once you have it tweaked to your desire, those measurements would be a better starting point for your next one. Its all a learning curve. Enjoy. -{

It definitely could be a bit more slim or fit, but it all depends on personal taste. Some people like the jacket shorter, the pants more slim, the waist, etc.

You have to be comfortable with it, no one can tell you what you should like.

Also, fabric wise, we can't tell from the pictures.

They are all fair points, but in this particular scenario we're not talking about the cut of the suit, but the overall fit on DTSNE06, which is alot more black and white. The reality is that this particular suit needs some tailor work in order for it to look good on him. It's noble to not wanting to hurt the guy's feeling, but I feel it is more important to help DTSNE06 make the best of the situation, so he won't be walking around looking like he's wearing his dad's suit.
  • DTSNEO6DTSNEO6 U. S. A.Posts: 115MI6 Agent
I'm taking the suit to the tailor tomorrow. I'll ask him his advise for what he needs to be done, and tell what we all discussed here. I also retied the tie and it ends before the belt.

I wore it to a nice dinner at Trulucks Sunday night, a nice restaurant in Austin. I wore it with my Walther P99 and my Omega Seamaster, overall i felt real comfortable.

Any other last minute pointers for the tailor, other than what we discussed?
