I guess this line spoken by Sean Connery in The Rock is one of my favorites, since I found myself quoting it today when I was encouraged to do my best: "Losers always whine about doing their best; winners go home and kiss the prom queen." Only neither Sir Sean nor I actually said "kiss". . .

Saving is a very fine thing, especially if your parents have done it for you - Churchill
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted - John Lennon
The world is like a book and those who do not travel read but one page of it - Saint Augustine
I'm sure I read the next one once, but I've never been able to find the source and am starting to wonder if I dreamt it, although modesty tends to stamp out the idea that my own subconscious could produce it
It takes great courage to put down words that could be evidence of your stupidity.
I find the last one particularly inspiring and have it above my desk when working I think a blank page is the hardest thing to start writing on.
Connery : What is Haggis?
Lambert : Sheeps stomach, stuffed with barley and meat!
Connery : What do you do with it?
Lambert : .....You eat it.
Connery : HOW REVOLTING
I have still yet to see the Bond film where this line came from, Jim Carrey did a Connery impression saying this quote in Ace Ventura and ive always asumed its from one of the Bond flicks.

"You are just as well placed to argue with any of the greats in the library."
Today I had the hangover from hell. I woke up to find a deflating rubber swimming ring on my bedroom floor and vague memories of swinging my shirt round my head in a nightclub to the Baywatch theme.
Somehow I made it to my lecture.
The quote is from my lecturer. I'm studying English and History at university and today's lecture was for a module that is basically preparation for my History dissertation next year.
The idea that my lecturer will consider my work in comparison with that of some of the authors that I admire and are held in such high esteem by other academics was hugely inspiring and I will never forget it.
I have a habit of noting down quotes from teachers and lecturers. I remembered one from my A Level English teacher. His incredulous response to a student's very brief review of Shakespeare's Othello:
"You 'don't rate' Othello?!"
)
Incidentally, I do rate Othello! Despite it not being my favourite Shakespearean tragedy, it does at the very least IMO surpass Romeo and Juliet.

"It is no coincidence that the century of total war coincided with the century of central banking."
"You cannot lead a man to a desert, then give him water and call that compassion."
"Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither."
"Commerce with all nations, alliance with none."
And my favourite, "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."
Can anyone identify these people?
The last one is George Bush jr ) I really miss all the goofy and dumb stuff he said and did, too bad about the politics ....
That is the one thing I like about Mitt Romney - he has said a couple of things that reminds me of the last Republican president. Maybe he can make a new law that permits windows in airplanes to be opened? Obama is too cool and well spoken - Bush jr was a lot funnier!

I think it's a pity that the two best known quotes from this presidential campaign are both very much taken out of context. I'm of cource refering to "I like to be able to fire people" (Romney) and "You didn't build that!" (Obama)
"Heavy physical work, the care of home and children, petty quarrels with neighbors, films, football, beer and above all, gambling filled up the horizon of their minds. To keep them in control was not difficult."

It sounds like a damn enviable attachment and love to a romantic's ears. That sort of romanticized never-let-go love and lust in the old movies.
