James Bond Bank Account

Strange question and one I can't find the answer to - does anyone know where James Bond held his bank account??

Very interesting. Although I cannot answer, I would imagine Craig's Bond to have a CitiGold or Amex account.

Since Bond is always a few steps ahead, not Switzerland, which is becoming dangerous. But have we established the kind of money that he has? He's not supposed to be that rich, isn't he?
If you can't trust a Swiss banker, what's the world come to?

Like most civil servants of his calibre he'll have generous expenses and as he lives on the job, I doubt he has his own place to finance. Therefore, his wages are total profit and probably go in to one bank account for a retirement/rain day fund - Naturally he'd have an exclusive account with the most benefits.

Average salary of a civil servant in 6 is about, what, 38k? So yes I agree, Tout, hardly Forbes.

A US Navy Commander with 20 years time in service makes around $95,000 a year US. I would think their UK counterparts would make similar.

Bond being middle class would bank with Lloyds. When I first started working in retail Banking that was the automatic choice for people in that class bracket. If the turnover on his account is enough then he would bank with Coutts or Child & Co.

Wouldn't his credit cards etc. not be supplied by his employer rather than his own? Therefore the bank would fit his cover etc.

His expense accounts and alternative ID's would all be looked after by MI6 but his own personal account is different.

I doubt he has any incredible wealth of his own. He is probably putting it away until the end of his career (I imagine this job will wear him out faster rather than slower) as Wilde said. The big money is handled by MI6.

MI6 must be well off since, along with MI5, they are pretty much the only civil service departments in the UK recruiting externally! :o

I always thought he made a lot of money gambling.

Hehe. True. I haven't the slightest guess at how much he ends up with in his bank account from that though...

Literary Bond could indeed be Coutts or Child & Co as Martin Aston suggested above. Film Bond depends on the film. In QoS it would have been the branch that gave away the nicest toaster.

In the novels Fleming explained that Bond made a decent middle-class wage but had almost unlimited funds while on a mission (which typically happened twice a year). He was a skilled gambler. Most importantly he did not save money for a retirement as he did not expect to live long enough to have one. He spent every penny on luxuries like his Bentley, fine dining, gambling, etc.

In some later novels after Fleming, authors have also suggested that he received some money from a life insurance policy after his patents died in the rock climbing accident.

If he has a Coutts account then you have to have £500,000 to pay in ! Excluding property. So it's a fairly hefty sum
