Qos Bolivia Tie Knot

Hi All,

New to the boards so please be fragile.

Any body know what type of knot this is - it looks too symmetrical to be a four-in-hand, a possible windsor knot? Although it's well documented Bond would never trust a man with a windsor knot I doubt that it'd be that although it lends itself to a windsor of half-windsor being so symmetrical.

Any info would be greatly appricated, and advice on tying this type of knot would also be soooo helpful.

Thanks guys

I'm pretty sure that's a four in hand. Mine always look like that when I do it. Good quality ties will be thicker and broader in the neck which allows for that bolder, more symmetrical look. If you buy a high end tie or the respective replicas from Magnoli, you will see what I mean.

    PS: Welcome to the boards!

    Hey Wilde,

Thanks for being the first to reply and for the warm welcome.

I have a couple of Magnoli's ties (Montenergo and Quantum) wore the quantum to an interview last week.

No matter how hard I practise, and believe me its been a lot and I've watch hundreds of youtube videos of all the other knots out there trying to find the one in question.

I can get the dimple perfect but never the nice looking knot with a four in hand, what's the secret? :)

My guess is its a Four-in-Hand knot although I often opt for a Windsor knot as I tend to wear cutaway collars.

    Split the difference, lads.

I reckon it's my personal favourite, the Half Windsor knot.

Yeah, I think that would work well too.

I also agree with the Half Windsor. The four-in-hand is an asymmetrical tie knot.

I agree, could well be. Although my FIH knots always look symmetrical! I'll put it to the test!

Thanks for all the input guys, if anyone figures out how to recreate the knot please let me know, in the meantime I'll just keep trying.... :s

Try the half windsor or pratt knot. I think either of those will give you the look you're after!

I always thought it was the Pratt but Matt S. says it is the four in hand. I trust his judgement.

I second the Pratt/Shelby knot. I know Matt says it's the 4IH, but I always use the Pratt knot for my ties, and they usually end up with that beautiful, perfectly dimpled triangle.

That knot isn't completely symmetrical. It's too narrow to be a windsor or half windsor knot, and in the few shots where the narrow blade is seen the blade is not seam-side out. It has a nice shape because it has a substantial lining. Different linings and silks make different knots. How the tie is tapered also makes a big difference. Because there is little tie space in the collar the imperfections of the four-in-hand knot are hidden.
