Confess!

Have you got a dirty Bond secret you want to admit to? Have you got a naughty confession you want to get out there?

Here's mine: I've never finished Carte Blanche. I got bored. I couldn't get past the fact that the villain in a Bond novel was basically a garbageman, and so I've never completed it. And now it sits in my library taunting me with its unfinishedness, shouting "call yourself a Bond fan?", but I just can't be bothered.

I feel much better now.

When My wife was only my Girlfriend ( wasn't she lucky :D ). We'd only being going out a few weeeks when
I decided to "Come out" as a Bond Fan., Proudly showing her my Collection ( which of course was kept in my
    bedroom ).
Much to my embarresment, I'd forgotten that included in my collection ( I must add I'd gotten them in my
teens ;% ) was a set of several Playboy mags with various Bond girls along with some more down market
mags, which also had a couple of minor Bond girls in.
To this day she laughs at how Red my Face got. :)) It really was a case of Pussy Galore. :))

When I was 13 I set a goal for myself to watch all of the Bond films in chronological order. I became bored at the mid-point of FRWL and abandoned the venture.

I've never read a Bond book in its entirety. I plan to, but the movies are just so dang distractingly fun. Casino Royale is at the top of my Amazon Saved Items list. ;%

I never read John Gardner's last four or five Bond novels. They were getting so bad I just couldn't bring myself to buy them. I keep telling myself I will one day read them all. . .but I still can't rouse myself to bother.

I have to confess that I was getting bored lately Bond too.
Overwhelms me, and I think in almost since I wake up, perhaps because the first thing I see is a cabinet with the products.
Before movies only saw 007, and read some books, but since I participate in forums, I was overwhelmed

Maybe you should stop writing for a anytime

I'm kinda ashamed to be a Bond fan. To the point where I have to, as put best above by Thunderpussy, "come out" as a Bond fan to those I know. Is it just me or is it weird to really love something and sort of be ashamed by it too? lol 8-)
Then he looked again at Bond and spoke very quietly, the red moustache lifting slowly from the splayed upper teeth.
"I should spend the money quickly, Commander Bond," he said.
Then he turn away from the table and walked swiftly out of the room.

im never ashamed of it or dont have to "come out" with it because i dont own that much james bond products, my room isnt overflowing with 007 stuff, just a poster and a prop on display, so anyone who enters isnt shocked which i assume would happen to bond fans with entire rooms filled with JB products.

Double-dating. The date was Goldeneye at the cinema and a meal afterwards. Friend and I agree for some stupid reason that it would be good fun to go in full tux, bow-tie etc. meet at the cinema and friend has bottled out. Bollocks... Looked a proper tit and no amount of bravado could make me feel better. Especially as girls and friend were jeans casual. :#

I've never read any of the non- Fleming books except for Colonel Sun. I realize the hunger that fans have for continuing the novels, but in my mind, it would be like someone writing more Sherlock Holmes stories. You can imitate the author to a certain degree, but for me it would always come up short. I also hate having the literary Bond transported to modern times. Bond was a creature of the 50's cold war era as Holmes was a creature of his time. It's just where they will always belong in my mind. The film Bond is another animal, which I find pleasure in seeing anew, and I was delighted that they rebooted him back to the literary character, though the non- Fleming films will never match the ones based on the original novels.

Despite being a Flemingist who prefers darker, more realistic Bond films, I have an odd soft spot in my heart for OP. While it's essentially a remake of GF and has some truly silly moments (Tarzan yell, anyone?), there's quite a few scenes I just really enjoy. Plus, I've been a fan of Louis Jourdan since his performance as Dracula on the BBC.

On the flip side, FRWL is not one of my favorites. I have two main issues with it: 1. Connery's performance always struck me as a bit off. I can't put my finger on it.... 2. None of the big set-pieces—gypsy camp fight, helicopter chase, boat chase—worked for me. I don't think they were well-staged. The fight with Red Grant was of course fantastic, but I really think Terence Young wasn't at his best with huge action sequences. And the final chase scenes really felt tacked-on, which they essentially were.

My love for Bond has greatly diminsihed and I fear may just disappear. IMO, the current Bond is not right for the part, the women in the last few Bond films have left me cold, the movies lack the bigger than life productions that the early films had and quite frankly, they just aren't fun anymore. Babs and Wilson lack Cubby's vision.

Well, I tend to agree with that, BN, esp about the lack of the vision thing.

I'm not sure if Bond is a good role model. I mean, he doesn't have any mates does he? We never see him in a situation where has to resolve a problem through group discussion or anything, it's just him steamrolling his way through.

As Vesper notes in Casino Royale, MI6 prefers agents with less of the normal daily personal lives, making Bond's orphan status and hardened military personality ideal. He is perhaps inspiring in some aspects, but as a role model, he strays from the 'good man' in specific ways.

haha Thanks. Yeah I'm not to sure where it comes from either. Very perplexing.

    I couldn't agree more! I've only ever read Fleming's novels and Devil May Care (which I really enjoyed luckily enough). The only other novel out of the non-Fleming titles that I intend to read is Colonel Sun due to it's traditional ties with Fleming's work. Something's off about the rest of them and I have no interest in how other authors tackle the character in the literary world. Some things are sacred. -{

Well, I get ashamed too. Bond and other guy-ish movies are what I've grown up watching, thanks to having a dad and 4 brothers who love it, but it does make me feel very odd. Especially since my friends have pretty much never seen a James Bond and barely even know who it is; and well, I've seen them all and am now reading the books ahaha!

Also, Roger is my favourite, and his movies will probably be the most played in my collection! ahhaha! (-:

The only actor to play Bond that I have a problem with is, D Craig.
Sorry to his fans but He's Simply not Bond.
So my Interest in Skyfall is Mild. First time in years I'm not excited
about a new adventure for Bond.

And here I was thinking that you were warming to him :))

I have had to work hard to focus upon the positive (of which there is quite a bit) in order to be able to accept him. Otherwise I felt that I like you I would have little interest in the current run of films which for a Bond fan is (as I'm sure that you will recognise is a tough gig)

Dirty Bond secret? I'm glad this thread has stayed relatively clean and above board. Family forum and all that ...

I guess mine is my constant love for Moonraker ... I hide it outside my top 3 favourites, but in truth I love it to pieces. I must have watched it hundreds of times.
  • James SuzukiJames Suzuki New ZealandPosts: 2,406MI6 Agent
HOW CAN YOU GUYS HATE ROGER MOORE!
Sorry, had to get that off my chest. It was made in the 70's and 80's, it was suited for that time. Just like dalton was suited for the more action, films like lethal weapon and die hard. Its not that bad. Moonrakers good, the space film is a little corny but who cares. Lois Chiles is awesome, jaws is better then ever, venice is wonderful, the villian hugo drax is so cool, cool enough to get a member copy his name its not a guily pleasure if you like moonraker, or any bond film.

Predator I'm with you on that one! I watch it almost everytime I'm sick! Always cheers me up!
I don't really understand why there is so much hate on it.

If you ask me, Rog's performance is still pretty good coming off TSWLM, the bond girl is alright, Drax makes for a deadly yet subtle villian, Bond actually does some spying in it etc. Apart from Jaws and the space battle I think it's pretty decent. ;%
