  I don't have any experience with them, but they don't have the 5-pocket jeans style cut.

  Mr. Beech (or is it Bond? I'm confused) is correct. These are more like regular trousers than the jeans style of the 306.
  
  I can vouch for the BR pants, though, to the point where I've even considered getting them tapered. See my photos in the other Sta-Prest threads, where I try to recreate the outfit.

  Definitely not white. And the reason why I would say the Banana Republic pair is closer would be that it isn't denim, but has the 5-pocket cut of denim. This can be said about Sta-Prest, too. They are not jeans, they simply have the cut of jeans, but the material is a non-denim lighter material in a sort of cream color.

  Where are you located? I don't think 501's are a bad choice for the looks, but I don't have first hand experience.

  I like the 501s in Grit, as well, but if you look at my comparison on this page, AJB member roi007 shows his Sta-Prest pants in Sandpit just after I post pictures of the 501s.
  
  I think you'll agree with Mr. Beech regarding the Banana Republic 5-pocket pant being a closer representation. I love them too much to taper them, though, and will probably leave them as is, unless there's another sale and I can shell out a few more bucks to have them altered.

  There is ALWAYS another sale at Banana Republic. I swear, there has almost never been a full two weeks without 30% or 35% off. Don't even be fooled by the 25% off sale they did this weekend. The Gap Inc. owned brands are known by many of us as 'perpetually on sale'. You will absolutely be able to get them on sale again if you wish.

  Enjoy them! I love the fit of my 501s in Grit. I just wish they made them in Tumbled Rigid. I plan on getting some 514s in that color, as the 559s I have are too baggy.
