Just watched crack the case ad, very cool. I guess the hunt will be on for what kind of ear muffs he was wearing.

    I like Bond's hat :D It's not a classical Russian-type one, it's a more elegant version of it.

I think that is a great ad. Definitely more Bond and Casino Royale than Quantum of Solace. The elegant rush and escape in a luxurious setting. It was enjoyable.

I like the humour, the inclusion of Dr No and the cinematography. Heinekin do some great adverts and this is amongst their best I believe.

    Hi

    I'm curious about this.

Is this something you buy to consume or to keep in a cabinet and have as a display piece.?

It's bought for consumption though you could keep it in a cabinet as a display piece for ten years and it should still be drinkable.

From Bollinger to Heineken. Here is a still from the 'Crack the Case' advert.

At 30,000 units it won't be their best champagne, problably doesn't get better with the years. Collecting wise I'd keep it closed - the more people open theirs, the scarcer the closed ones will become.

My word, is there nothing that can't be branded with 007!

Just like the new cologne...to me its just a bit tacky {:)

I mean you're never going to see Bond actually drink this, or use the cologne...
Much prefer to collect the real thing, rather than this branded one....which means you'll be paying for the logo, rather than the contents :s

Thank you Lexi, for me some of this is ruining the 50th Anniversary. Bond over the years has been a pretty exclusive niche brand with product placement being fairly high end but more discreet. Microjiff summed this up nicely on his comments of the official one sheet design. Quite frankly you may as well add a "For Sale" sign to the top of DC's head! I'm waiting for a 007 appearance in the next Andrex or Kitecat advert with Minime as Ernst S-B. :#

Can you imagine.... a Bondesque Andrex add, with Bond saving a girl who was about to use some inferior toilet roll, then looks at camera, straightens his cuff, and then say's "....don't settle for less... love your bum!" :))

Well if "The Originals" at EON Marketing who come up with these campaigns are reading this? (you know who you are) then expect to see your concept on a small or large screen in the not too distant future. Going back to 1995 Desmond did a similar "taking the p" out of himself commercial in the US & played it for laughs much like Sir Rog' reprising his role complete with ski suit for a Christmas M&S campaign a couple of years back, both of which Cubby who was a showman at heart I think would have approved. I'm not sure what he'd think of this current mess! Maybe I'm just getting old but in the world of 007 less is Moore...lol :)

Thanks for the replies. I think the non 007 branded bottle sells for £85 in Harrods. It's being advertised as a gift pack so I wonder if there would be something extra like champagne flutes for example or just fancy packaging.

The Skyfall Heineken tv commmercial is on the Dutch television now and the commercial is even longer then the one that can be found on the Internet. I think it is a great commercial, directed by Matthijs van Heijningen jr.; the Dutch director who directed the movie The Thing, the prequel.

I can't deny that this is a really cool advert... it is. But I can't help but be saddened at the same time... I mean since when did Bond drink Heineken?? :#

I know that this was disclosed a while ago, but to make an advert like this... with Bond prominently featuring in it... I can't help but think the franchise has sold out, big time...(and I'm kinda surprised DC agreed, unless it was in his contract??) I mean if this was an advert for vodka, or Omega I could understand. But beer... oh dear...what's next... head and shoulders???

Bond drinks beer in the novels and I never heard any complains about that. Bond drinks beer in QoS with Felix, no complains about that either. Gordon's is named in CR and Gordon's isn't a great gin, never heard complains about that. Okay, the Vesper quote is an exact copy of the one in the book going so far as to asume that the bar carries Kila Linet, a drink that has been discontinued for a long time. Product placement has been prevalent in 007 films since the beginning. Just look at Dr No where it is still not as in your face as say a movie like Moonraker (anyone wants a 7Up, a Seiko or a flight with a certain airline?) but it was still there. A Perrier truck being destroyed by Bond in a tank in Goldeneye with the truck filling the entire screen for all of us to see before Bond crashes true it is also quite obvious. "Rolex?" "Omega!" Bond drinking Smirnoff Red in Tomorrow Never Dies is just as cheap an example of product placement as Bond ordering a Heineken. Smirnoff Red is one of the cheapest vodka's around. Nothing exclusive about that, but still, I heard no complains at the time. So why is everyone complaining about the Heineken tie-in?

Unless Bond orders his Heineken, turns to the camera, holds up the bottle for all of us to see and says: "I only drink Heineken, the best and most exclusive beer in the world. Do like 007 does and get one tonight at the bar during the intermission" I don't think it is any different from most of the other tie-ins by a big company.

Craig may or may not care for Heineken or the deal. We don't know. We do know, that he would back it no matter what at this point, though. That's part of his job now that they've signed the deals.

Well, he doesn't speak, or drink Heineken in the ad so it's not a complete sell out. :D

It's the way things are and we just have to hope it's not blatant (in Skyfall), that's when it bothers me. So lets wait and see what happens. If Bond were offered and accepted a Heineken without it being mentioned by name then that would be reasonable.

I totally agree that brands have been linked with Bond movies for a long time, but you never saw Rog, or Pierce doing a commercial advertising the latest product that was being showcased in the film.

Well, for me, with this commercial, and the explanation he gives in the Moore Than link, he pretty much does...(although I believe with tongue placed firmly in cheek) but some will take it as gospel.

I guess it's all the other stuff I've been seeing too... the branded 007 champagne, cologne, body wash... :s It just seems cheap, and somehow lowers the core brands that Bond has been linked with, mainly Aston Martin, Vodka, Omega/Rolex and Bollinger
(And by the way, I hated the line in CR... where Vesper asks if the watch is Rolex - but it was one line... not this parade of other brands....)

Sorry for the spelling error, I hope I won't be lifted off my bed tonight by the spelling police. I remember reading somewhere that they changed the recipe and with that the name to Lillet Blanc, but I might have misunderstood. Thanks for the correction, Ill start looking for a bottle tomorrow :).

However, I always wondered how something like the PhilipShave got into DAD. Did Philips write to EON and said "Could you give Bond a beard so we can market our new electric razor" or did EON contacted Philips "007 will have a beard in the next movie, how much will you pay us to have him shave it off with one of your devices"

Well, branded 007 products have been around for a long time as well. Just look at what they did with Thunderball in 1965. 007 swimshorts, shirts, bathrobes and even an aftershave! BMW did it in the 1990's, paying more to get their brand in the movie so Q could introduce the Z3 with all the gadgets that were never used in Goldeneye. They used the DB5 to remind us all that this is still James Bond, but after that they didn't mind accepting the big bucks from a major (not British like Aston Martin or Lotus) company.

I would never buy a cologne called James Bond 007, give me my Chanel Pour Monsieur any day of the week (or one of my other scents for that matter) but for some people this is a fun (and cheap) product to buy or give away as a present.

As I was informed here, vodka is a pretty cheap liquor to make, right? Making it a somewhat ironic symbol of Bond's rich tastes in mixed drinks. We'd like to think his vodka endorsements are of higher stature than his Heineken endorsements, and my guess is that it comes from how they are served and where.

He is unlikely to order beer in a tux, but a vodka martini would be a-okay.
