Is deleting email 'spam' ever a good idea?

I sometimes go into Spam to see if some hapless emailer has got rerouted there unbeknown to me. Natually I make to delete all the rubbish that is in there. But does the computer at the other end pick up on this and go, 'Hey, we've been deleted! That means the account must be active, let's send some more junk out!'
No idea how it works, really, but whenever I delete stuff I tend to get more junk mail in the spam box than ever.

Well I know that thinking is true for text spam, as in if you text the word 'stop' it proves that you are an active account, but I don't think that's true of email. They can't see you've deleted it.
Just keep marking the spam email as such, and all that unwanted stuff will go into your spam box....
The reason you're getting so much of it, is the quality of sites you visit... )

Even that doesn't work, marketing companies tally in their millions across the world, most use software which attempts to guess potential e-mail address' and will send e-mails out to thousands at a time, which is why you often see spam e-mails which have lots of address' in the 'to' row.
Best advice has already been given, turn off the setting in outlook which automatically opens e-mails when you click on them (one click) and bulk delete. Bare in mind, however that sometimes positive e-mails are sent to junk folders.

Otherwise, well I log onto amazon and stuff, but I take it Lexi is talking about porn sites, right? But - ahem - even if that were so, I don't leave my email there. Or is it that magic thing where the computer picks up on it anyway, if you have logged onto your email recently?
The spams aren't porn related, though (I wouldn't delete them if they were kiddin' ) but stuff about gambling rubbish.
