Casino Royale Drinks Question

In Casino Royale, Bond creates the drink called Vesper. I was wondering if anyone knew if the drink that poisons Bond is a Vesper or a Vodka Martini. I have never read the books so maybe it is more clear in there.

Thanks!

I assumed it was a vesper. In the book there is no poisoning, but Bond is threatened with a walking stick gun to the base of his spine as he plays cards. He collapses elaborately from his chair and the gunman escapes. The poisoning works better for me though.

I want to know because I have always been interested in why Bond always orders a Vodka Martini. I cannot just accept it is because he likes them. I thought a Vodka Martini was the drink that almost killed him and then he was saved by the woman he loved. If it was a Vesper then maybe he just wants to avoid those drinks and orders a Vodka Martini in all the other movies.

It is interesting because before Bond returns to the table, he is upstairs in the casino and orders a Vodka Martini. We never see him drink it so maybe he gets it downstairs at the table, where it is then poisoned.
