Close But No Cigar - 007 songs that missed the cut

Hi all. A while ago I got intrigued by all the artists and their songs submitted to the Bond producers, but were beaten by the ones we know and love (maybe :p )
I searched the internet high and low and came up with a list of songs and put them together to make an album on my iTunes I call: Close But No Cigar.

1. Thunderball - Johnny Cash
2. You Only Live Twice - Lorraine Chandler
3. The man With The Golden Gun - Alice Cooper
4. For Your Eyes Only - Blondie
5. Living Daylights (demo) - Pet Shop Boys
6. The Juvenile (GoldenEye) - Ace of Base
7. Tomorrow Never Dies - St. Etienne
8. Tomorrow Never Lies - Pulp
9. Tomorrow Never Dies - Swan Lee
10. The World is Not Enough - Straw
11. Beyond The Ice (Die Another Day) - Red Flag
12. No Good About Goodbye - Quantum of Solace

There are a few more rumoured, especially for TND or (Tomorrow Never Lies) which is said to have had 8 different songs produced. Does anyone know of any more I can add to my list, and know where to download them from? I know there is a Goldfinger one, but cannot find it anywhere.

Anyway, they are all very listenable, I especially like The Juvenile, of which there is a GoldenEye version on YouTube (which I cannot find anywhere else, but its GREAT.) And the Swan Lee and St. Etienne TND ones are funny, the latter more suited to Austin Powers.

If I work out how, I may upload the songs for you all to enjoy. I'm hoping to make an album cover too.

I'm afraid I can't help you with any more, but would suggest you try Spotify if you want to share such a playlist.

I have found the Goldfinger version that you were looking for. It was co-written (with Leslie Bricusse) and performed by Anthony Newley. It lacks the power of Dame Shirley Bassey's vocals and John Barry's brass but is still good listening.

Here are two more "007 songs that missed the cut". The first, is Julie Rogers distinctly different version of You Only Live Twice which I find to be quite pleasant. But not nearly as pleasant as the version we all know by Nancy Sinatra. The second (if you choose to include it), is Phyllis Hyman's version of Never Say Never Again. Written by Stephen Forsyth and Jim Ryan.

This one from Motiv8 & Kym Mazelle possibly missed the cut. I cannot confirm whether it was rejected or not but it has been referred to on three websites I visited. Quite a catchy tune.

Cheers thats the one, but I'd forgotten Newleys name.

The Kym Mazelle one does have a bit of Bond throughout. Im sure without a remix beat it would be quite good. Thanks for your help!

The song really sets the tone for the film. Some could have felt quite different with another song, especially with the score taking from the main theme. We can only wonder I suppose!!

Wow the Phyllis Hyman tune for NSNA sounds like Bowies theme to Labyrinth. Same era I suppose.

I came across this rejected theme for Quantum of Solace by chance. The song is co-written (with Christian Wolf) and performed by Swedish singer Eva Almer. There is some background in the myspace link below.

In my opinion, this song is so much better than Another Way To Die.

    IMHO, Eva Almer - Forever - I Am All Yours. Would of been a terrific theme. -{

Sounds awfully generic and I'm not crazy about Eva Almer's singing on this track. Another Way To Die wasn't great, but I prefer it to this rejected theme.

Highly unlikely as View to a Kill came out in 1985 and I Saved the World Today in 1999. The Eurythmics tune could have been created with The World is not Enough in mind (also 1999), but I have seen nothing to support this. Will see what I can find out...
