Is there anyone out there who prefers the Walther P99 of the recent films to the traditional Walther PPK?

As loading a clip, letting the slide go n looking mean, p99 is a winner.
That said, the pre 2004 p99's are much better looking than the current model, whereas the ppk has always looked good.

The P99 was never meant for real deep concealment.
Today, there are many lightweight micro 380s and 9mms on the market.
Kahr, Kimber, Ruger, Walther, whatever.
Bond or Craig is laughable with that (.32 ???) PPK on his side.
A blowback handgun is never as reliable as a locked breech pistol, anyway.
The PPK startles at the least bit of dirt, has no solid backstrap, cruel DoubleAction trigger pull.
Benson got it right with the 9mm ASP.
Give Bond a compact Kahr these days, it need not be a Walther...

Then again I've only just Found Out Glen Cambell directed a Bond. )
Some good points. But name a weapon that fires silky smooth and light on the first double action pull. That's why in the real world Glocks are so perfect. No terrible first shot. The Beretta 92 models are ten times worse than the ppk on double action for example. And I've fired pretty gritted and dirtied ppk's without any trouble with working parts - that's one of their best qualities. With you on the ASP 9mm - a much better proposition than anything else given Bond's remit.

I like DA in general and think that SIGs and 3rd Gen (or later) S&Ws have very, very reasonable DA pulls, my CZ75 from 1976 is also great. With a guy like Bond, even a tricked-out compact 1911 might be thinkable. I´d really love to see a custom movie gun on a movie hero, one that is not available to the general market.
Love the cz75. Owned one for a while, just a decent no-nonsense tool.

Bond’s Beretta
The Handguns of Ian Fleming's James Bond
there would be no way the bullet would have gone through the gas tank.
No way a 9mm would either.
Infact, I've tried it with a .44 magnum, fired through a Marlin underlever carbine (and with a 22" barrel at that) and it didn't penetrate. Just left a hell of a dent. A .30-06 round went straight through both sides however!

But movie scenes like that define the massive fear that "common" people generate on firearms.
Like pump action shotguns blasting people meters away from where they stood as if hit by an SUV at full speed.
We really have to think "out of the box" in this regard, as people not "in the know" have a completely different grasp of reality.
