Have any of the movie Bonds been to Canada? I've racked my brain and can't remember any.

Yes and no. . .the famous "ski jump" in The Spy Who Loved Me was shot in Canada, but it's doubling for Switzerland. I wouldn't be surprised if a Canadian city has doubled for another place in the Bondiverse (Vancouver has been borrowed by a number of films), but Canada itself has never been a Bond locale.

In case you are wondering where exactly in Canada. The famous "ski jump" was shot on Mount Asgard. But I think it was doubling for Austria.

Well that settles it, I think that Bond needs to go to Canada in a future film. Eh?

Banff in Alberta would be a nice location or even the old city of Quebec.

Having visited Toronto and the Niagara Falls area of Canada there is certainly plenty of potential for Bond to visit. From a visual and people point of view I enjoyed it very much and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Perhaps the producers think Canada is like Kansas. If something happens there the world will not know about it for weeks. :D

I know there are many areas of the world Bond hasn't gone but I feel the big three
    that he should visit are,

    Canada, Australia and S.Africa

A film that included all three might be good. Some kind of post colonial vibe in the story perhaps?

Yeh, I remember suggesting it, in the Bond 23 car forum http://www.ajb007.co.uk/post/489731/#p489731

The Sea to Sky Highway in Vancouver... with the Pan Pacific hotel would make a great location... especially as the winter Olypics were there a few years ago.

I'm surprised Canada hasn't been used... such diverse landscape... (although, like everyone else has pointed out, Vancouver is used as a stand in for many US cities... cheaper option :D)

Bond was tasked with Section "C" in Thunderball, which was Canada, but he asked to be sent to Florida to follow up with sister of the Nato pilot instead. Can't say that I blame him.

That's probably the closest to Canada he's been.

    Nassau, not Florida.

But the closest he's ever been to Canada would have to be New York, when he was there in Live and Let Die. Although in the novel The Spy Who Loved Me, he got a fair bit closer still :)

Take a look at the filming locations on some of your favorite movies and there's a ton that are filmed in Canada but don't actually take place there. Like for example Toronto is usually a filming location for a movie that takes place in New York because the city looks similar and its way cheaper to film it there

Since Bond movies come out of England though it is probably just easier to just film it there.

    Moonraker crashed in the Yukon.

I'd love to see Bond in Canada.
    Also South Africa and Australia.
How about Argentina? With all the Falklands nonsense they are whipping up ATM, could that make a good Bond plot or is it too political?

The (literary) Bond visited Canada in the short story 'For Your Eyes Only', you should seek that one out.

One of the early sequences in Diamonds Are Forever is, if I'm not mistaken, set n South Africa - where the dentist is murdered by Wint and Kidd (with a scorpion). But I sincerely doubt it was filmed there...

Yes, I am indeed. The American mafia thread has really piqued my interest in this subject area. Any suggestions of good books or articles can be made in my thread on books on the subject in the Off Topic thread here on AJB. Thanks in advance for any suggestions that you may have. All grist to the mill. :)
