From Russia with Love Recorder Camera prop/project

gparamusgparamus Posts: 29MI6 Agent
It’s been a while since I posted a new Bond prop to the forum. I am always working on or collecting Bond and enjoy the forum, especially with the some of the high end props being created by its very talented members. The skill set and drive out there is high definition. I built the Camera-Recorder Bond used in From Russia with Love. I suppose I started this 4-5 years ago when I got the camera, but ran into terrible problems when I first tried to build the case. I went through two expensive Rollieflex cases before I realized that the case was custom made, and not simply two cut up cases re-attached. Anyway, posted are screen shots for reference and photos of the prop. Click on to enlarge. I tried, unsucessfully, to have this posted at full size without need to enlarge. Sincerely, George

And your point is Andy?, I personally couldn't afford or have the skills to make a custom case, so my gluing two cases together did the job, I still say that parts of original case where used in the screen used case.

    George,

That is excellent work! I heard about the hard work you were doing on this through Ed. It is truly exceptional. Since I'm a sucker for Connery era props, I have to say you nailed this one. Thanks for sharing.

George, when you showed Christof and I this prop recently, it was evident that after years of your working on this MOST excellent prop that you truly had "Nailed" it...as usual.

Just to show you Georges' dedication to this prop I need to say that the leather panels you see are actually wood underneath the leather on which George meticulously hand-drilled each one of the 100's of stiching holes then hand-threaded it to have it resemble it having been machine-stiched.

Kudos also need to be given to Andy for his artwork in duplicating the Battery. His contribution lends to the authenticity of the duplication of this iconic prop.

George made an interesting discovery in that the small compartment underneath the recorder was in fact, the exact size of the battery and must have been intentionally made as a storage area for an extra battery.

This is truly a "one of a kind" prop that George has added to his collection and that we would ALL want to add to their collection.

Now you can see why George doesn't post as much as he should...he's too busy building stuff!!!

Well done, George!! Now start making them for the rest of us. (The line forms to the left)

Thank you all for your kind and flattering comments. Like all of you, to receive praise from your peers is the highest compliment and reward. Forgive me for not mentioning the help Andy (Gadget Meister) provided with his excellent EVEREADY battery label. He worked his magic to perfect the vintage Battery, which was not available anywhere on this planet. His drawings and custom label/faceplate artwork have me believing he worked at Eon studios in the 1960's. He is amazing. Lately, I have been collaborating with Ed and Christof to make props that would have been impossible a few years ago. It's a hell of thing to see it on the big screen as a kid in the 1960's and then actually have it in hand some 45 years later, especially considering that in most cases all we have is a screen shot to work with. With all the talent on this forum, you never know what will show up next. Sincerely, George

George, my meager contribution pales into insignificance when compared to your workmanship, but I thank you anyway, truly humbled. {[]

Andy, Ed sent over that wonderful GF schematic drawing. That project is on my 2012 list of props to do, and that NASA quality drawing will get framed next to the prop, when complete. You saved us a tremendous effort and time in developing the drawing with measurements. It is dead on accurate. I understand the time it takes to do this, you have my gratitute and admiration. I have a non-working clock, and am still looking for a correct, operational clock mechanism. Your drawing will certainly help us get the prop close to perfection. It will be a fun project. Thanks. Sincerely, George

That camera box is just perfect!!
I know, I had it in my hands. In real it is even better than the pictures show. I can only imagine how many hours, days (weeks) it must have cost to create this prop.
It inspires me to work even harder on my next prop. But yours are amazing!!
    Thanks George!!! {[]

Sometimes it takes more than one person to make a prop. It's great that we can all share our expertice with fellow collectors to achieve the level of quality...now let's all get a room together :)) :))
