Moonraker location opinions wanted

Hi guys,

Sorry if this is the wrong sub-forum, but I was watching MR for some research, couldn't help notice the location used for the Venice glass factory exteriors seemed very similar to the sinking house exterior in CR.

Anyone able to confirm this?

Cheers,

MG

Hello Minigeff, Bond enters the factory through Venini Glass which is on the Piazza San Marco (the factory interiors where done on Murano I believe) I made a point of visiting all the Bond locations the last time I was in Venice. The Casino Royale house is on the Grand Canal just opposite the Hotel Rialto and has little resemblance to the model that was used.

This is me standing on the area where everybody gets up from their vinos to watch the house sinking. The actual house should be in the background. ...somewhere.

Nah, I mean the square 'round the back'.

It's the scene where he enters the lab, before spying the 'close encounters' tune being played on the keypad.

In casino royale, bond is hiding behind a pillar spying on vesper deliver the cash to gettler. Gettler see's bond, holds a knife to vespers throat, shouts "I'll kill her!" then legs it into the house building site....

In moonraker, bond is in the square, goes up some steps and next we see him in a corridor. A scientist (same guy in the pipeline control room in TLD) comes along and plays out the 'Close encounters of the third kind' tune...

Actually pal, it's not a bad film, right up until bond and goodhead go into space. Then it's all 'artificial gravity' (how convenient for the filming) and pew pew space lasers, which is quite frankly the most daft gimmick in a bond film, yes even dafter than invisible astons.

My favourite scene is that line 'you missed'... 'did I?' followed closely by the safe cracking bit.

Dolly's got a cracking rack too.

I even partly agree with you, singe.

But if you compare the space background, the "artificial gravity" and the laser "pews" with the first Star Wars movie, I would say, that they've gotten it pretty well.

But he should never have gone to space - that's my view now. Back in 1979, I was simply blown away by everything, that I have seen (I was 15 back then... good times) - and I am not solely talking about Dollys rack, you bugger :D

Regarding Roger's "did I?" line: I doubt, if SC would have been able to pull it like Sir Rog did.
He could be ice-cold when he wanted - so far with the clownish performance in his movies like many say.

I agree Markus, the "that's for 009" bit in OP was great.

I think Rogers films were sometimes let down by the daft sound effects, and as for the pew pew lasers, star wars is cool and is star wars. Bond is cool and should be bond. A mix of the 2 doesn't work IMO.

Corinne Cléry, yeah she could live in Italy ...or France where she was born. Her husband died in 2010 and i believe she was living in Italy at the moment, but not anymore - I'll see what i can do :s

:)) Teppo our celeb stalker :007)

Btt: I am watching MR right now and the building seems to be very different to the CR palazzio.

What I did realize are tha nice props there which are very replicate- worthy:
    The safe cracker
    The octagonal glass cylinders
    The poison cylinders
    The golden pen

    ok, fair do's.

yeah, you try making that bugger work (the screen was hidden in the door of the safe)
    The octagonal glass cylinders

good luck finding that bugger, unless you can get it custom made. know blowing brockwurst is up your street, but glass? :v
    The poison cylinders

bit crap without the glass bit
    The golden pen

hmmm, nice idea but the only challenge is finding the right pen... oh and its used on a rubber snake, which was a bit gay. bernie clifton on an ostrich was more convincing.

    - and the little 007 camera :D

gay. just about every bit of info i've read on special forces kit involves removing any insignia, badges, name tags and rank indicators from all get-up. so what would Q branch do? oh yes, what a good idea, we'll put the 00's numbers on their cameras, just incase they all go on a stag do and get their snappers mixed up.... 8-)
