Connery is Back

Better pic in yesterday's i newspaper, which had a feature on Bond's gourmet tendencies.

He hasn't aged in 30 years... mainly cos he looked about 80 back then!

Still... "good to see you again Mister Bond". Oh no, hang on that was a Moore film.

He actually looked quite happy . Connery is one of those people who doesn't hide his emotions . If he's annoyed - you soon know it

Actually ' Good to see you Mister bond ' wasn't that from Never say never again ?

Sean Connery has been invited by the Scottish National Party to attend this coming Friday's formal unveiling of Yes Scotland - the Nationalist's campaign for Scots to vote for independence in the poll expected in 2014. The SNP last night refused to say if they were expecting Sir Sean to attend the event. The launch will take place at the Cineworld multiplex at Edinburgh's Fountain Park - just a three minute walk from Sir Sean's childhood home at 176 Fountainbridge.

Sean Connery is the latest high profile celebrity to be told by the police that they believe he was a repeated victim of phone hacking. It is understood his name appears in the records of Glenn Mulcaire, the private detective for the News of the World newspaper. It appears Connery's phone was hacked about ten times. Close friend and biographer Murray Grigor is quoted, "Apparently there were ten instances. The police were quite excited about it but he doesn't want to know. He doesn't want anything to do with it. He's just having a good time and he's just shrugged it off."

Someone should throw murdoch off a high balcony and Connery could shrug and say ' An exceptionally fine shot' to which the assailant would reply ' I didnt know there was a cement mixture down there !! '

It's good to see Sir Sean out and about and looking relaxed and healthy.

I did wonder if he was ill or something when he just disappeared and retired.

Gives me hope he may appear for the 50th Anniversary celebrations .... :D

Sean Connery was at the US Open in Flushing Meadows (New York) yesterday to support Andy Murray in his semi-final match against Tomas Berdych. Another famous Scot was also there in support, Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson. Murray won 5-7 6-2 6-1 7-6(9-7) and will play either Novak Djokovic or David Ferrer in the final on Monday.

It is great to see Sean Connery out and about. I was only talking with someone the other day saying we haven't heard anything about him in a while.

A true legend, without Connery, there would be no Bond.

No, without Ian Fleming there would be no bond. Connery was good, sure but the longevity of the franchise didn't hinge on his involvement.

    Besides;

Perhaps you're right, but I'm not so sure the cinematic incarnation of Bond would have been as successful (and long-lasting) had Connery started it off with such a bang. His impact shouldn't be underestimated.

"Perhaps"????? If Fleming hadn't created Bond there would be no Bond. End of debate. The success of the films, the longevity of the series etc being attributable to Connery or Saltzman or Broccoli or anything else is all supposition. But without Fleming there is no Bond.

Of course it is true that there would be NO Bond without Fleming. "Perhaps" was a poor choice of words on my part. The point I was trying to make (unsuccessfully) is that I am not sure that the cinematic Bond would have taken off and had such long term success if Connery's launch had not been so impressive. Maybe with a different actor the series would not have caught on the way it did (for example, no one has ever been able to sustain a Doc Savage movie series, and I suspect that at least part of the reason is that Ron Ely didn't really set off any sparks in the role). At any rate, of course it's all supposition and no one knows what would have happened if someone other Sean Connery had been chosen to portray Bond in the first film of the series. It's just my opinion that Connery's strong presence and undeniable charisma helped to get the film series off to an impressive start that has contributed to its longevity.

Sean Connery was at the US Open in Flushing Meadows (New York) for the second time in three days to support Andy Murray who beat Novak Djokovic 7-6(12-10) 7-5 2-6 3-6 6-2 to win his first Grand Slam title.

But it appears he will not be making any public appearances in support of James Bond's 50th anniversary. According to the National Enquirer, Connery will not be participating in any 007 tributes. Connery publicist Nancy Seltzer is quoted: "Sean is, and remains, retired and has declined making public appearances." That includes a star studded dinner for Bond cast and crew members to coincide with the release of the latest film, Skyfall. The Enquirer claims Connery still feels bitter that he was shortchanged by the original Bond producers, he claims he got less than one-fiftieth off the fortune they made off his six Bond films.

Murray lost two sets in a row - luckily his comeback was better than Connery's in Never Say Never Again. :))

Of course, the real reason Murray was crying at losing the Wimbledon final was a Scotsman missing out on all that dosh - he and Sean have something in common. :D

Anyway, banter aside, great to see Murray bag the big one.

He's clearly pissed at having the autograph hounds almost literally poking him in the face with stuff most likely earmarked for future sale anyway. Jeeze, leave the guy alone. Be glad to be that close & catch a glimpse. 8-)

Typical tabloid reporter having a pop to sell papers.

I hope I look in as good shape as Sir Sean when I hit my eighties! Setting aside the clothes are for a more casual relaxed approach, (Mr Craig appears to be the only Bond actor the press accept in casual clothes,) he looks like he is very much he is in charge of himself.

Clearly he knows he is being papped, he looks peeved in one of the pics! Can't say I blame him.
