Revisiting Maggie pre charity auction

Hi Guys,

As some of you know I saved a Maggie 007/010 to auction for a doggie charity that is close to my heart, Meg Simmonds, EON's Archive Director has also agreed to sign this for me.

Now what id like to know from you Guy's is, How can I make this even more tempting? and where would I auction it to raise the most funds, any Ideas would be most welcome.

Here are a few pics to help you get ya juices flowing :D IMG_1084.jpg

Mate, have you been in touch with Christie's

As they did already 2 007 themed auctions - the chances for the 50th ann. Will be high that they do it again.

Except that: Maybe the IF Foundation may help and if that does not work, make a charity auction in the first week of december on ebay UK

I take my hat off to you, This is a real nice thing you are doing!

I understand fully what a dog is to a family / person its more than
just a pet, I lost my dog a few months back to cancer, had to take
him to get put down, he was in too much pain, it is one of the most
difficult things to do in life!

like I say well done to you for doing such a good hearted thing like
    this :007)

I agree with Bondtoys I would imagine there Will be a Christies Bond
auction happening some time soon, I would have thought so due to
the 50th Celebrations etc.... I would check with them for sure, But I
am not sure of the level of a cut they would want from the final sale
of the item ..... however if explained nicely they would maybe auction
it and give their Fee / cut to the Charity too, good publicity on their part

I am sure Meg Simmonds... Could maybe Get Babs and Michael G. to Sign
the Display Plinth / Storage Box also ;) would be a nice extra sweetener......
don't know if you could go as far as Daniel Craig? Ok he wasn't Bond in
THUNDERBALL but still would make it even more unique, I am sure if you
managed to talk Meg Simmonds into asking Michael. G and Babs you might
just Get Daniel too :007) .... who knows

eBay would give you a wide audience of fans... but most people on eBay
want something for next to nothing, and that would not be the aim of this
Auction..... And eBay are robbing Scum.... so their cut of the final value fee
    - if its for a charity or not... would not make it worth while, But if you contact
them and explain the situation and charity, they may make an exception - I
Doubt it....... but, you never know.... maybe worth a try

Best of luck with this... Keep us posted

yeah i can see where you're coming from with the robbing bastards comments mick, and we all know ebay isn't what it used to be.

however if you're selling an item for a registered charity, they do offer free listings, i believe they also put some kind of charity logo on the advert so prospective bidders can see that its a legitimate charity auction.

the first step in that process is contacting your charity and they'll have someone who deals with this and can contact ebay on your behalf to confirm your auction is legit.

personally, i think it'd be a good idea to make maggie part of a bundle. the more items, the higher the bids and pete is well aware that if he needs any further assistance or items for his very worthy cause all he has to do is ask.

as for where to place the auction, ebay has a wider audience (potentially global) whereas a specialist auction at christies maybe isn't as accessable. i've also heard of some terrible results with a specialist auction. didn't the walther wa2000 from TLD go for around £4k, which considering its a bloody rare rifle in its normal form, being the actual rifle from the film i honestly think £4k would be a right bargain to the buyer, but a right kick in the nads for the seller. wouldn't wanna see maggie have a similar return.

    Pete,
For a dodgy, butt plug using cramudgen...you are one of the kindest, most giving people I know. Your willingness to have the sale of "Maggie" go towards helping out our "furry" friends is most commendable.
Only we, who have had or lost a pet, know how special are your intentions.

Just a thought, but with the upcoming Barbican exhibition, surely they'll be having some sort of highbrow opener/dinner/preview event could be the right sort of clientele and avoid all the potential losses from sale costs. OK means it misses the wider audience (i.e. most of us :# ), but I guess at the end of the day it's all about maxing the bucks.

And I can only echo the comments above, top draw mate, top draw!

    Yeah, Special needs :D

Seeing the cruelty inflicted on to these animals is about the only thing that makes me cry, if I can help in anyway then I will, it is the people in receipt of the funds that are special :x I just hope I can help out more :007)

If we got a room Markus, you would only want in or want to watch :D

Good deal. There is supposed to be a few Bond pieces moving in a Christie's auction next year. However, there is a big Christie's markup and the VAT and etc.

I'd be happy to auction this off via my BONDLIST eZine. It goes to collectors and webmasters worldwide. Some of the bigger items I've sold at BONDLIST include a set of 14 Fleming 1st/1sts and one of the six Sable Basilisks ever printed, along with rare props and etc.

Have you thought of perhaps contacting www.bondstars.com to ask if they could donate some Thunderball related autographs that could be auctioned with Maggie? They 'represent' (if that is the correct word)

    Martine Beswick
    Earl Cameron
George Leach (who as well as doing stunts on the film I believe he played a Disco Volante crew member)
    Luciana Paluzzi
    Mollie Peters
Nikki van der Zyl (who dubbed the voice of Domino in Thunderball)

I don't know if they'd be good enough to help - but these autographs would be a nice addition to Maggie and would look good framed in a display with her for any potential auction winners.

    Cheers for the information guys -{

It is a good idea AM DBS, could be a logistical nightmare though. I don't have much faith in our postal system :D

Thank you for the kind offer BCW, can I get back to you, Im just waiting to hear back from Meg as to when I can meet up with her to get Maggie signed.
