Essentially, what your saying is that Cumberbatch and Hardy are not able to play Bond because you've never seen them act like Bond before.
Each to their own, but to me that should not matter.
Connery, Lazenby, Dalton and Craig had also never played anything even remotely like Bond before and they all did alright.
No, essentially you're missing the point, that being;
Neither TH or BC fit the image of bond.
The don't look hard enough, sound suave enough, and BC comes across like a 9 bob note. It'd be like getting arnold swarcheneggararergear to do a cookery show, it just doesn't work.
(although I'd rather see arnie do scones more than BC do bond)
Fair enough. I still disagree though, I feel Benedict Cumberbatch could make an interesting Bond. Not sure about Hardy though, I don't think he has the right look.
Neither would be my first choice though.
1- On Her Majesty's Secret Service 2- Casino Royale 3- Licence To Kill 4- Goldeneye 5- From Russia With Love
To repeat myself, NP would have a fair point if his candidate was Michael Fassbender. When he favours the blond, 5`9`` Hardy with mouth many women would inject botox to copy, I allways fear his next post will be "Bazinga!"

Here is a rather good fan made trailer for a Bond film starring Michael Fassbender. Leonardo Di Caprio plays the villain. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.
I don't choose Hardy. I just choose him over Cumberbatch. I agree about his lips. Still, he looks like straightforward leading man material in Inception (nice threads too) with a great Bond-style footchase, better than the Craig ones imo, and he can do comedy of sorts (though his romcom was rubbish). Mind you, he was rubbish on the J Ross chat show this year.
Not sure he or Fassbinder really would want to do Bond frankly, unlike Craig at the time of his appointment they are Hollywood names of sorts and don't need it.
Perhaps we don't dissagree as much as it might sound. I'm not completely against Hardy. He might become a good Bond, but like Craig he would be good much in spite of his un- Bondian looks.
I also think that Cumberbatch is not an obvious Bond, he does look somewhat unusual, but I do think he is interesting and worth considering.
