Vanquish is back!

The DBS is dead, long live the new Vanquish!

I can't upload a picture for some reason, but Aston Martin have the new Vanquish tested, on loan to car magazines and ready to launch in 2013. This is great news to petrol heads with the right amount of funds because although very good the DBS just wasn't special enough. It wasn't far enough ahead of the DB9. Only fifty or so BHP ahead in power and virtually unnoticeable in comparison on the road. It certainly wasn't as quick as the outgoing Vanquish either with top speed or acceleration as proved on Top Gear and Fifth Gear tv shows. At a million quid, you have to discount the 1-77 as the flagship of the range. That was the DBS's job, now it is back at the Vanquish's wheels, and it looks good. Thanks to all aluminium and carbon panels, it's performance is up considerably. At 560 ish BHP, it's still not enough for such a car ( Ferrari's next front engine offering will have the same sized engine with an incredible 750BHP) but Astons aren't just about performance. The Vanquish's interior is all new, and although similar in looks to the DB9, Virage and DBS the differences are noticeable. It looks leaner than the old Vanqish, and slightly sleeker than the rest of the range. I hope Bond can get behind the wheel of the Vanquish sometime, maybe he will for Skyfall, but I've sworn off all Skyfall threads and wouldn't have a clue!

If someone could upload a photo of the new Vanquish that would be great!

Just mentioned this in my best Bond car thread. It is cool that the Vanquish name is back.

It's very pretty, but I still like the original vanquish just a little teeny weeny bit more.

I'll wait for the magazine tests before I believe it will hit 100mph in 4.1secs. I dont think any gearbox will deal with 60-100 in less than a second! With 585bhp that's more likely 100kph (62mph) but we'll see. The Ferrari 458 hits 100mph in 6.6 secs and that's more likely to be quicker than a big Aston.

I'm so relieved it's back.....here I was thinking that I'd have to settle for another Honda Civic when I buy my next car. :s :))

Yeah according to the Aston Martin site itself the 4.1 seconds is 0-62 mph (100 km/h). So I guess Moore Than was a tad optimistic at that being a time for reaching 100 mph.

    Me, a tad optimistic?

In the article I posted it stated that it takes the new Vanquish 4.1 seconds to hit a tonne and goes flat out all the way up to 183mph. I wrongly assumed from that the tonne meant 100mph. It is a pretty special car as it is......but not that special. :D

I think of the new Astons as art as well as vehicles. When I say new Astons I don't mean the Vantage, I mean the original DB9 and the One-77. The Vantage is a little plain, and the DBS is a little too bling and niche. And the Virage's sole purpose is to fill a gap.

Other modern vehicles like this (imo) are the Maseratti Gran Tourismo, Alfa Romeo 8c and Ducati Monster Dark motorcycle. All are beautiful (though flawed). A modern Porsche 911 turbo is dynamically better than all the cars mentioned here, but soulless in comparison. As are modern Japanese sports bikes.

I loved the Vanquish S. it should have evolved with tiny facelifts and power hikes and remained on sale like the DB9. I still think its the best looking Aston.

    I may be Blaspheming But,
I think all Aston's lately look the same.
They've taken the Porsche rule book on car design
    which is change nothing. :))

I see your point TP. I think Astons really leapt ahead with the DB7. It was so gorgeous after the Virage and Vantage of the 80s and 90s. It was the start of the current Aston DNA. The Vanquish used much of the DB7 v12 vantage's more muscular stance, built on it with extra muscular looking panels, but even side by side they looked related in the same way a Porsche 911 (993) looks like today's 997/991. Together the 911's look very different. On their own people mostly know what it is, but not the exact model. The DB9 took much of the Vanquish's looks, but in a softer set-up. But yes, we have now the DB9, Virage and DBS - and you really have to look hard to tell the difference - without the model designation on the back I know that even though I'm a car nut, I'd struggle at a distance. The Vantage is easier to distinguish and side by side with the others is noticeably smaller as well. The new Vanquish has clearly taken the DB9 etc look. I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You would have to be channelled by god to come up with a better looking design though...
