Short Article on Skyfall Edition Omega

Dappered.com has a short article on the special Skyfall Edition Omega Seamaster titled "Adds or Detracts? Bond Watch Branding." You can read it here:

http://dappered.com/2012/06/adds-or-detracts-bond-watch-branding/

A poll at the end of the article asks,

Adds or Detracts? Omega “SKYFALL” Limited Edition
Adds - Lighten up, it's kinda cool and at least it's subtle.
Detracts - Totally cheesy. The logos are lame.

The poll is running about 77 percent "Detracts" to 33 percent "Adds. I voted "Detracts."

I for my part find all this moaning about the 007 logos on LE pretty boring..
Its the same every time that one comes out -a bit like groundhog day.

Now to all the critics: What would you expect from an Omega James Bond limited model?
    What would you do?

Markus, maybe you should retire from watches and concentrate for the MR camera :D

Just kidding, personally i think you are one of the persons keeping this forum alive {[]

Btw, did you sleep on MY bed while in England X-( :v :D

    ;) thanks Teppo,

I know people who would object, that I am killing the board instead of keeping it alive :D
As singe is so slow, I can't rely on the MR cam, I still have to deal with watches. And I really wonder, what all the critics expect from a James Bond LE. The unbranded civil version is out there, so what do these people expect? A built-in butteplug?

As for YOUR bed in England: Yes I did and I definitely could tell from the pink bedsheets, that it's your bed :))

Personally I would expect it to look exactly the same as the one in the movie. If I was ever to purchase a genuine 007 watch, that is what I would expect. If they want to add a 007 logo or any other embellishment - that's fine, as long as it is on the back of the case, so it is only visible once you take the watch off.

The special edition one in the article looks tacky because of the "007" on the face. Might as well get a cheap Chinese replica and spend the price difference on a new car or something...

Well, the watch exactly from the movie is easily available - without a premium price.

As for putting the 007 logo only on the bottom, I am afraid, that all the moaners will complain: " no ideas, we've had this before, cheap make to get some extra money ... tada" and on a side note, how would you communicate such an item in advertisements and in jewellers windows? At the first glance it's only the normal watch!

As far as I am hearing, that has been the problem of the QoS Limited Editions, the laser etching was not visible at all, so many people did not understand, why that one was more expensive and special.

I for my part - if I am buying that kind of LE, I want to see something, when wearing the watch. I don't want to have to get the watch from my wrist to see, that I have a special edition.

there's nothing 'limited' about a run of 10,007 units.

IMO, omega should just ditch the daft gimmicks and do regular watches.

In the 8 years of owning my seamy, I've had around 4 or 5 people notice that I'm wearing 'a bond watch'. I don't flash it in people's faces, cos thats just crass. I don't need a 007 logo on my watch to know why I bought it.

    Ende.

Ps, Markus, I'm currently using the ali for your MR camera as a weight, it's very useful. Expect delivery of your finished prop around xmas time.

Well, Microjeff. Christmas 2015 is pretty fast for your standards :D

I don't think, that these Limited Editions are intended for all the propfans, who care upmost about accuracy along to the movies. These guys buy the standard version of the watch or - in case of Singe - a fake :D

Limited Editions are intended to make money! Deal with it! And they are meant to get some cash out of the pockets from people, who have already the "normal version". It'l like Porsche doing another Limited Edition car with special brandings on the seat, dashboard and body. Doesn't make the car faster or handle better and many purists will look down on them.

It's not about having the most accurate or plausible gadget for doing roleplays as James Bond, it's to give something nice to people who feel a connection to both brands.
Look at the Bentley Edition of " Devil may care". It does not read better than the standard book but it looks amazing in a bookshelf and gives the owner a short trip into the world of Bond.

:D I doubt, that potential buyers of a LE Omega or the Bentley Edition of DMC are nearby bankrupcy.

They enjoy to buy something that they already have again, because it's nicer in some details.
And maybe to annoy the purists and laugh about them :))

Your Seamy is worse than a fake, it's a Lady Size :))

Ah "MICROJEFF", I knew that would catch on eventually....Parp!

As for the LE Bond Omega timepieces, the Casino Royale Planet Ocean was the flagship as the branding was on the rear case plate & was otherwise as it appeared on screen. The Quantum laser engraved Seamaster had a dial fashioned after PPK grips which was a nice touch & this new jobby has taken inspiration from an Aston Martin grille? but yes the logo on the 7 does look a wee bit naff! Personally I like the 50th Anniversary Seamaster which oozes quality with such features as the revolving centre to the bullet case/gun barrel bezle & again like the Casino Royale Planet Ocean a more discreet but large time piece.

ppw, you should stick with your guns :D

The CR Limited PO had a 007 logo on the secondhand 8-)

True but its discreet & they reused the sweep hand on subsequent & previous Bond edition Seamasters. Point is the 007 logo in place of a 7 digit looks a wee bit naff! .....what guns?

Many people (including Sir Miles) would declare the red 007 logo tacky - so it's a matter of personal taste ;)

In my opinion, Dell Deaton nailed it on the JBLifestyle forum recently:

You either like the concept of the LE Omegas or not.

If you belong to the second group, any alternation of the "civil" watch will end up in being criticized for being hideous - not plausible (a secret agent wearing his id visible on the watch) and tacky.

There is nothing that Omega can do to please this group.
Good thing is, that they don't have to please that group as they will never buy a LE anyhow :D

I see it as a collector's watche. It would be nice to have in a collection, but not to wear. Like a die-cast car, it's nice to have but serves no practical purpose.

I own the Casino Royale LE PO as well. It's one of my daily wear watches, along with my Seasmaster Pro. It's my favorite LE PO because it's more understated than the others. The only differences between it and a regular PO is the 007 logo as the counter balance on the second hand, the CR logo on the caseback, and only 5,007 were made.
