Question about Bond movies...

When Quantum of Solace was released, were the producers etc already working on Skyfall or was it all fresh after QOS?

I don't really know a lot about the details of movie making, but it sure seems to take a long time get sequels etc anymore.

Production on Skyfall started after QoS. The main reason it took four years for Skyfall to come out was that MGM was in financial trouble a couple of years ago, and they had to file for bankruptcy. During this time, there was nothing they could do to work on a new Bond movie. This was also the reason why it took so long for The Hobbit to finally get going.

With that being said, movies do still take a long time to make though, especially big budget ones such as Bond. Though it is still possible to get them out every other year, which is apparently the plan for post Skyfall Bond.

I still can't fathom why it takes so long to knock out a script. I'd say there are too many fingers in the pie. The EON method of 'committee writing' seems a hindrance to me. Just hire a good writer with a style that suits & let them get on with it.

As a previously published author, I could have done the QOS in an afternoon. It would also have been better.

Why do they keep on hiring Neil Purvis & Robert Wade all the time only to get other writers in to alter everything? Is their writing so sub-par? Are Wilson & Broccoli tied to them by loyalty? If the likes of Paul Haggis & John Logan do such good jobs why not just hire them to do the scripts in the first place? So many questions...

i don't think the 'other writers' are brought in to change everything....they are brought in to 'polish' the script....it's generally bounced between P&W and the 'other' writer a couple of times...Haggis was brought in to sharpen up the dialogue...

I'd say you're right. Rather like the Roald Dahl and Tom Mankiewicz schools of writing. -{

I think that Wade and Purvis may have had their day!
