Not large numbers of Bond actors, but they've crossed paths over the years. Connery had worked with Irvin Kirscher before, in A Fine Madness. He works with Klaus Maria Brandauer again in The Russia House, as well as with Michael Kitchen. Connery, Ralph Fienes, and a (wisely) unseen Patrick MacNee are in that awful film version of The Avengers. He appears with Michael Lonsdale and Verson Dobtcheff in The Name of the Rose and with Edward Fox and Michael Byrne in A Bridge Too Far. Roger Moore appears with Bernard Lee in the seldom seen Crossplot, and works with Peter Hunt in Gold. From Hong Kong with Love features Bernard Lee, Lois Maxwell, and Clifton James. Timothy Dalton and Steven Berkoff are in The Tourist.

As well they should! Couldn't anyone see what a misfire it was before they released that junk?

I always wonder how film-makers can tell if a film is a turkey or not. At the time of making them, how do you know what you have on you hands?

I'm sure many films seem like great ideas and filming goes well and producers are convinced it's a hot property, yet the film bombs (like The Avengers). Yet others will be more like The Blair Witch Project - starting small and low budget, the producers have no high hopes, and the film ends up being a massive hit.

Short of running previews only once the film is finished, how can you gauge its worth?
"How was your lamb?" "Skewered. One sympathises."

I'm told that the original cut of the film is much, much longer, and that the missing scenes would have fixed a lot of what was wrong with the final cut. But regardless, the miscasting of the leads was huge problem. Ralph Fiennes is a cold fish, something Patrick MacNee never was, even in the early days of the series when Steed at times seemed quite a bit more menacing. Uma Thurman lacks just about every feminine charm that Diana Rigg brought to the role, and she is nowhere near as attractive. If the plot and pace of a film are going to be paint-dryingly slow, it at least helps to pick some charismatic actors to distract us, especially if they are starring in one of the most beloved TV series of all time. The shame is the rest of the cast is more than passable, and I think even Connery's scene-chewing turns as the villain could have worked.

Saw the John Wayne movie Rooster Cogburn the other day on TV and it had the guy who plays Milton Krest in LTK as a western style bad guy henchman.

Not really actors on screen :)) but ..........

I noticed watching When Eight Bells Toll, that Bob Simmons was the action arranger
And Charles Gray ( Blofeld in DAF ) did the voice for Jack Hawkins, who had throat
Cancer, so couldn't say his lines.

I enjoy this movie quite a bit, although it doesn't really compare to the original Magnificent Seven. I might be mistaken, but I believe it's Bernie Casey's first movie.

I think you're right - it's not as good as the original and it's probably Casey's first film. Reasonable Western, and George Kennedy is always enjoyable.
