Bond continuing to flirt with women after Tracy's death

  There have been plenty of men who've had their wives die and who then went on to other women; that doesn't diminish the love they had for their wives or the pain they felt on their deaths. A friend of mine who died a few months ago said that after his wife died he was a "real sl u t"--he had a different woman every night--and that was his way of coping with loss.

  In the books, he is devastated by the death of Tracy (in the opening chapter of You Only Live Twice). He is dejected and failing at his job. He makes sullen jokes with Moneypenny about quitting Mi6 and becoming a chicken farmer, and M is considering firing him.
  
  Mi6's psychologist recommends to M that he send 007 on a certain type of mission in order to 'get him back in the game' so to speak. If you haven't read the books, I highly recommend them, they're very enjoyable.

  Widows and widowers talk about those expectations being quite a burden sometimes. People expect them to grieve and never let go and never be attracted to others and on and on. As if part of their brain is dead and doesn't want good relationships and human interaction anymore.

  SpectreBlofeld has it right. This was only really an issue in the films. In the novels Bond is devastated by Tracy's death. I've often thought the biggest mistake Eon made with the movies was not really dealing with the events of OHMSS and providing some sort of closure. Filming YOLT and OHMSS out of sequence was a huge error.

  It didn't help that in DAF they basically decided to forget about the events in OHMSS almost entirely and Bond is his old self as if nothing has happened. Even why he was chasing Blofeld at the start wasn't ever mentioned. Not so much as a 'sorry for your loss' from Felix.

  Agree with this, in DAF, it should of explained why he was chasing Blofeld, or indicated a little about the former Mrs. Bond. This is a let down for the series. Most of the time his wife seems to be completely forgotten. That being said, I loved the little exchange between Moore and Triple X when she mentions his wife and he cuts her off. It shows how Bond feels about his wife, but also, something he doesn't liek too talk about.

  One of my favorite Moore moments (Moorements?). Sir Rog is my least favorite Bond, yet has some of the series' best Bond scenes.

  In the novel of YOLT Bond is indeed devastated because of loosing Tracy but he doesn't stop his womanizing. In the first chapter he is having his way with a 'pillow geisha'. In chapter 2 Fleming tells that Bond has had quite a few women in the 8 months that have passed after Tracy's death (The ones who told him to take it easy on the stairs. The ones who asked him to take them to Paris. etc etc) Maybe this is just Bond's way to deal with his job and his personal life.
  
  I believe DAF (the movie) tries really hard to distance itself from OHMSS in almost every way.
