making a poster

Hi guys,

Me and a few friends are making our own set of classic Bond posters, just for fun really. We might however be selling them for a few quid and I was just wondering if there are any copyright issues we need to consider? Can we use the bond logo, and is there any way to find photos of the actors that we could use in our posters? Im really ne to this so sorry if my questions are a bit silly 8-) Secondly, can anyone recommend a good software to use for designing them? I have used photoshop in the past but dont have a license anymore :( Someone suggested GIMP, would that be suitable for this sort of stuff? And also, if we print just a few dozen copies, where should we get them printed? I asked my local high street printer but their quote was wayyyy too high! :o Has anyone tried these online printing services? I googled and found a couple, this one print24 online printer for exampe, they do poster printing and other stuff. I guess printing with a desktop poster is not really possible if the size is bigger than A4, or are there affordable A3/A2 desktop printers available out there? Ive got this Epson printer at the moment.

Sorry with all the questions, if anyone can help it would be awesome! Thanks! :D

ANY pic taken by or used by EoN is out, that includes artwork from posters, books, cd, DVD, and other merchandise. Changing an image, ie colour to grayscale, the size of an image or cropping part of an image won't get round copyright. I think you'll find even the film titles are trademarks so you can't even use them.

The 007 logo is WAY out, don't even go there.

Basically, if you plan on doing this for profit, don't bother at all.

If I was you guys, id just do it for shots and giggles.

Use photoshop, it really is the nuts.

Yeah, technically the product has to just be a free giveaway. You can only actually charge for your services, web access, shipping & handling, etc. The product itself can't have a stated price if you are using EON's property. Or so I think...

You need to use Photoshop... Gimp is a good photo cropping package, but not so good for designing Posters.

Be very careful about using images and logos... like MG says, you won't be able to sell them, unless you have permission, and I doubt you'll get that. Don't think you can skirt around this issue, with "oh, no one will know..." they will.

I design book jackets for a living... and copyright is a HOT issue - and as Mr White says, "we have people everywhere..."
