Goldfinger Movie Review

Goldfinger builds on the foundation of From Russia with Love. The action is knocked up a notch and Connery is on form in this Bond Classic. This takes a step away from SPECTRE and focuses on Auric Goldfinger, and Bond is introduced to the Astin Martin DB5, complete with ejector seat and machine guns.
The Bond girls speak for themselves. Jill Masterson, who is found dead, completely painted in gold paint, lying naked on the bed. Tilly Masterson, Jill's sister, who wants to kill Goldfinger to avenge her sister, but is ultimately killed by Oddjob, and Pussy Galore, Goldfingers personal pilot, who believes she is immune to Bonds charms, but soon folds like a cheap suit.
Goldfinger is a superb villian in my opinion, His amazing wealth makes it understandable as to why he has so many people working for him. He has a giant laser that he thinks about using to chop Bond in halve, but has a sudden change of heart, and overall I think he is quite a charasmatic Bond villian.
Oddjob, is another brilliant character, although he doesn't speak throughout the whole film, he doesn't need to, his actions speak for themselves. He has a hat lined with steal that can chop the head off a statue or even kill someone, and he can be hit in the face with a solid gold bare and be left only with a smile on his face.
This has a great opening pre-title sequence, when Bond blows up a factory making an underwater entrance desguised as a bird. Also the golf scene where Bond plays Goldfinger is another pleasure to watch. All of the scenes involving the DB5 are great and the Battle at Fort Knox is great.
This is one of the most famous and defining Bond movies ever made, and I think could be the best Connery Bond movie.

I am surprised that there are not many reviews of Goldfinger. Everyone is defending the odd Bond's, recogning to get it noticed, while we forget the true classics like this one it seems.
There cannot be enough praise for this movie. It is amazing to know that Gert Frobe did not speak any English, but still had such a massive presence. That is one good actor and also one great voice actor. Further more, the fantastic soundtrack of Barry, the first PTS what had nothing to do with the rest of the movie, the iconic DB5, the first real Q scene as we get to know him, the golf scene, the driving through Switzerland.....Too many highlights to choose from.
I will never get tired of this one, and I am quite convinced it will always remain the best Bond movie in my books.

I'm right with you, buddy! -{
Seriously, I did a search for a good review of Goldfinger but could hardly find anything on this site. Strange indeed. To me this movie cannot get enough praise. Perfection in optima forma.

On here, you are more likely to run into a discussion as to whether GF is overrated, rather than to whether it is a classic since almost everyone agrees it is.
While I don't have GF in my top 5, it is still a classic. It just has that Bond feel that is timeless and classic. So many great moments and great characters. Anytime Oddjob smiles, I smile.

Every other Bond movie is enjoyable (yes, even DAD) but those 3 are the best in my eyes. All 3 score a 10 out of 10 because they are flawless and enjoyable at any time.

if you enjoy Foebe, then you must see the movie that's gotten him the role:

One of my personal favorites!
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!

Are you sure you're on the right site here? 8-)
Wow, utter crap? That is quite an amazing statement. To each its own, but it does make me curious to your top 5.
To me GF is entertainment in its purest form. A movie I will continue to enjoy for the rest of my life, that is for sure!

I certainly don't consider GF crap, but I don't think its the best either. Probably around the Top 10 for me.
Some I might find less entertaining than Others, but
they're all great fun.
" I don't listen to hip hop!"
it introduced the famous DB5 and cutting edge (literally) devices like the laser; they reproduced an exact outside replica of Ft. Knox and the property around it; the inside was a exactly how outsiders imagined it would look like (thank you Ken); the casting was spot on (accept for Leiter...oh well...); we get to see Bond at his favorite sport next to gambling (and it' a wonderfully edited part). In fact, outside a few hiccups (why gas the gangsters after they've already agreed to go in on the plan?)...turning Pussy from a strong willed gang leader into another "Ohhhh..James" weak female - EON really set the film series in stone here. Cant close this out without also mentioning Barry at the top of his game and the perfect choice of Bassey.
Yes, I am. In fact, "GOLDFINGER" is not popular with my family. To me, it's not a well written story. Mind you, no James Bond movie is perfect. But the writing in GF just sucks. The novel is even worse.

You're leaving out the other three perfect Bond movies... namely TB, TLD and YOLT!

They are all 3 good, and YOLT, unsurprisingly, is my most watched YOLT. But, it is a guilty pleasure, because it is far from perfect. Extremely enjoyable, but you have to put your brain in rest mode, so many illogical things happen.
TB is great, but has overlong underwaterscenes. Still love it though.
TLD to me is far from a classic. It starts of great, but at the end it fails. No classic villains (the weakest ones of the whole series as a matter of fact) a boring Bond girl (see other topic for my reactions) and the scenes in Afghanistan drag to long. I can think of 4-5 movies that I would name a classic before mentioning this one. Sorry.

FRWL & CR.
Everything else has dopey/illogical/silly/plot-hole/OTT stuff weighing them down.

The flaws of YOLt are not the over the top story, but also Connery who was sleepwalking through the movie, the weird Japanese transformation of Bond and some other stuff. It is still my favourite to watch however, but is not as perfect as the three I mentioned before. But that is just my 2 cents.
