SKYFALL - Bond's given a backstory. Unheard of previously. Up till now Bond's a leading character of 22 films that we know absolutely nothing about. True, his orphan status is touched upon in CR but this film seems to put real meat on 007's bones.
IIRC, Orphan status is touched on in Goldeneye as well, as both 007 and 006 are orphans.
The two Dalton movies were typical products of the 80s and seemed different to the rest of the series because they could easily have cast Stallone or Schwarzenegger and released them as non-Bond action fare

count me in the OHMSS camp as most different. I do think it's overrated at this point, though. While I liked the Lazenby/Rigg plot, there's a lot of ridiculous stuff in the film, especially at the girls clinic.

Why refer to yourself as we?
To give more weight to your opinions?
Nah, just to be flippant. )
Your blatant dismissal of Dalton's movies as quality Bonds called for it IMO.
Look, I may be wrong- Dalton's Bonds MAY suck, but I just don't believe so. Forgive me for weighing in with levity instead of malice. We all have our opinions, and yours as as valid as any one else's.
Question: if you dislike Dalton's movies, which are your favourites?
I personally have all the actor's movies in my top half of favourite Bonds....

My favourites are Dr No (probably because it was the first) , OHMSS, GoldenEye, LALD
My choices are often coloured by the circumstances in which I first saw them
You were probably correct in assuming that not many here would agree with my list

Did you ignore my lengthy post above where I point out that LTK isn't missing any of the "Bond Hallmarks"?
And forgive me for being questioning, but how can you dislike LTK but list LALD as a favorite. Isn't Bond battling a drug lord in that one? The same thing you're knocking LTK for having?
As for lacking in the Bond hallmarks department, again, LALD, which you like, doesn't feature Bond in a flashy car (A Bond Hallmark) Doesn't feature him ordering a vodka martini (A Bond Hallmark) Doesn't feature a scene with Bond in M's office (Which is also missing in LTK, though we DO see M at MI-6 in LTK). Roger Moore never wears a tuxedo in LALD (A Bond Hallmark) And for that matter, it doesn't even freaking have Q in it, a definite Bond Hallmark.
So when it comes to a comparison between LTK and LALD, I'd say personally that LTK definitely features more "Bond Hallmarks" than you're giving it credit for.
And Sanchez isn't selling drugs in Miami. He's selling them anywhere he can. Also, Krest's warehouse operation isn't in Miami, it's in Key West. Yes, it's in Florida, but it's hardly in Miami. And Bond doesn't stay in Florida to battle Sanchez, so it's really hard to generalize Sanchez as a "Miami drug dealer" when in actuality, he doesn't operate out of Miami, and the film makes it clear from the start he's leaving Ithsmus City for the first time in a long time. The only reason he's in Florida is because Bond and the DEA dragged his damn plane there to arrest him.
Sorry if I seem nitpicky, but it seems you're being overly dismissive of a film over one plot point (Sanchez being a drug kingpin) And faulting LTK for not having "Bond Hallmarks" When in actuality, it has more than one of the films in your favorite lists, and both films feature a drug lord.

*sigh* That's it? Isn't this a discussion forum? Here are the points I've laid out. It seems you don't agree. So, why? How about....We...I dunno....Discuss it?
Positive reasons? OHMSS was different in that Bond was more human, had more heart and actually cared enough about his woman to finally wed her. The ending of the film is incredibly brutal as well.
Negative? Moonraker. I like Roger Moore, I like Jaws but turning Jaws good and having him find love and save Bond is dumb. They could have done a really decent Sci Fi esque film but Moonraker was terrible.

Actually I lied about Taittinger and Beluga - I'd run out of the cleanskin red wine and crackers which I like to have on the weekend
