I received my vintage peacoat two days ago. I took it to the dry cleaner so I can't make any pictures right now but I have to say that it is in great condition. The old navy coats are pretty heavy but also very warm.

I only looked an hour after JMac88 had posted this, and already they had all gone. If not, I'll buy the truffle colour one. Not quite the same, but a John Smedley product for 30 pounds, it'd do!

There were only two left when I had purchased mine, but the next day I got a message from the seller informing me that they actually had none in that colour due to a missing shipment from JS or something like that. I opted for the seller's forest-green one, as that would actually work better with my brown Barbour jacket anyways.
Bad luck JMac...I missed out but so did everybody else, so I don't feel quite as bad now. Truffle it is then! I'm sure forest green will look pretty sweet with the jacket.
Having been so happy with the slim fit Next suit in grey (Istanbul budget alternative) I decided to buy two more so took myself to Westfield Stratford city yesterday!
The first is very Bondian - navy blue. The second is black with a thin grey pin stripe. I love the look, fit and feel of these new generation Next suits.
Also picked up four slim fit shirts too. Been off work all week so decided to treat myself. Can't wait to get back to work on Monday now and try em all out! Oh, latest on the boots is wait and see if they're still rubbing come Monday as I haven't worn them at all this week.
Very nice. TK Maxx has some very nice John White boots in a very similar style at a low price in some of the Londom stores too, if anyone wants to check out another possible alternative...

Depending on how much you want to spend willimnot... I went to the local Bachrach store and had a great suit custom tailored, looks just like the Istanbul suit.. paid right at $600.. seriously worth it.. just go through the swatches to find a suitable fabric and they will match the details...
I just picked up a peacoat from Gap that is a pretty close approximation of the Shanghai coat. It was on sale on their 35% off sale plus got $50 gift certificate back. End of the day it's a $45 coat.

Just checked that out, it's a nice coat for sure. My only problem with it, and this goes for the vast majority of peacoats, is that it has notch-lapels instead of the peaked lapels featured on the Billy Reid. The difference is always jarring to me but maybe I'm too picky.

My Gap peacoat arrived in the mail today. Honestly, I think it's a great budget alternative to the Billy Reid. Nice dark navy colour, same pocket style, warm quilted lining. The jacket length is also slightly on the shorter side, which I believe was the case with the BR as well. Fabric composition is 69% wool, 13% polyester, 7% rayon, 6% cotton, & 5% "other", with a polyester lining. The biggest differences would be the lapels, plastic buttons instead of horn, and the lack of leather trim details. Best of all, I was able to use a promo code to knock 40% off the retail price, making the coat only $95 CDN before tax.
Overall, it looks to be a pretty solid peacoat, and a great budget alternative to Billy Reid's Bond model. The quality is not at the same level, but it's a great coat on its own, especially if you can pick it up on sale. It's definitely a big step up from Old Navy's current offering, which unfortunately looks & feels very cheap, and comes with a much looser cut. I look forward to wearing this during the chilly Canadian winter.
When folded down, the collar is just a bit over 2.5 inches high, and about 5 inches when flipped up. However, I don't know how that compares to the Billy Reid.
Just saw that Gap peacoat today. Shot to the top of my wishlist for Christmas! Apart from the (let's face it) small differences in the original BR, it is perfect! The cut is slim without making the sleeves too short, the color is vvveeeerrryyyy dark navy, and it's warm. I had to size up (usually a medium, went for a large). The thing fit like a glove, and looks like the Skyfall coat! Handwarmer pockets, gents!
For a fraction of the cost, I have to say, it gets a lot of the details right. The lack of a crown guard, the single date marker, the triangular hour markers...I'm very pleased with it!
Not bad for £49, and looks great with my Barbour
