Yeah, he way oversimplified Craig's excellent take on Bond, but he's focusing on Dalton, so I took those comments as toss off stuff in the service of making his point.
TD is my favourite Bond for sure. I love all the others, there are no Bonds that I dislike. I feel that TD has no weak films, obviously only having 2 this isn't really the best reason as to why I think he's the best Bond, but like Lazenby, i feel TD has 100% good Bond films (Lazenby doesn't really count as he only had one). Connery's DAF performance was no where near up to his previous standards, and while Connery is a great Bond I've always preferred Dalton for some reason, probably partly at the start because I felt it was too obvious to say Connery was my favourite becaues this was my Dads opinion. In a way I set out to like another Bond more just to have an altering opinion. I was too young to see Dalton in the Cinema and as I made my way through watching the series at random (The first VHS I could find I would buy and watch) I kept wanting to find more Dalton movies. TLD and LTK were both in the first 4 or 5 Bonds I got on VHS. To my horror I did a bit of research and found out he only had those 2, so I rewatched them a lot more than I did with the other VHS' I had; Instead of rewatching the others over and over I was on the hunt for the others to complete the collection. By the time I had completed the Bond collection I had seen the Dalton movies a lot more than I had all the others so the way I viewed it from there was that Dalton was to me what Connery was to people who have seen the Bond movies in chronological order. However having now seen all the Bonds so many times I still find Dalton as the best. I think all the bonds have great aspects but Dalton tops them all to me, he's the only Bond I feel has intimidated me. Watching Connery is great, Lazenby was fine, Roger was amazing in his own way, Brosnan was the first Bond I seen in the Cinema but it was Die Another Day so didn't leave an overly good impression (enough to make me want the entire Bond collection though ) and Craig is top notch but he doesn't match Dalton to me. Dalton has the dark side, the funny side and believable side. When I see the stunts in his movies I can really believe it was him (there's not too many ridiculous ones) and I like his style. Luckily for him he stayed around briefly at a point in the series where the scripts and casts were really good, but I think he plays the main part in his films being my favourites.
I agree 100% LastRatStanding. -{
Dalton IMHO "Got" Bond and played him as close to the Bond of the novels.
Every actor brings his own slant on Bond, some have come close. But Dalton
was the Best. B-)
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Its kind of weird how I feel that way, considering Moore is at the complete opposite end of the Spectrum to Dalton, but I think that's probably the main reason. If I want a great, cold killer, which I do when I watch Bond, I turn to Dalton, then Craig, then Connery. If I want a much more light hearted take on Bond, I watch Moore then turn to Brosnan. The reason I'd say I prefer Moore to Craig or Connery, being a fan of the darker bonds especially, is because I can't help but rank them second best to Dalton. Moore plays Bond in such a different way to Dalton that I don't see them competing with eachother, hence why I find it so easy to love Moore. I love all takes on Bond and the way I see it in terms of tone is, from Darkest to lightest: Dalton, Craig, Connery, Lazenby, Brosnan, Moore; Dalton being the best at one end and Moore being the best at the other. To me, all the other Bonds in the middle are a really close call - hence the 8, 8.5, 8.5, 8.5 - all great but not my favourites.

Yes, it is certainly NOT the case that if you appreciate Timothy Dalton then you cannot appreciate Roger Moore, or vice versa. I see the contrast between the actors as one of the series greatest strengths, not weaknesses. If all the actors who succeeded Sean Connery tried to be like him then the series may well have gone into a long hiatus by now. Roger Moore is my Bond but I also get a great deal of pleasure from Timothy's performances and films. I love his intro in The Living Daylights and also the serious aspects he brought to the role.

Agree with everything above. Dalton was the full package and even when I read the novels I see Dalton as Bond.
"Thank you very much. I was just out walking my RAT and seem to have lost my way... "
Did you see Dalton's movies in the theatre or later on TV or video?
Did you love his performance immediately, did it take some time to decide he was the best, or did you recently re-discover his movies?
And, can you rate the other Bond actors, using Tim as a 10?
I was about 6 and a half when TLD was released here in the US, so I don't remember if I saw it in the theaters or not, but was one of the few Bond films my family had on VHS when I was growing up. So I guess he was "James Bond" in my formative years. I suppose early on I accepted the conventional wisdom that Connery was the best Bond and that GF was the best Bond movie, but I suppose as I saw more Bond movies, I grew to appreciate Dalton's Bond more and more, while finding fault with other portrayals. By the time I was in high school in the late 1990's TLD had become my favorite movie with Dalton as my favorite Bond.
My ratings of the Bonds over the years:
Dalton - 10/10
Craig - 9.5/10
Connery (Dr. No through GF PTS (my list, my rules )) - 9/10
Brosnan in The Thomas Crown Affair (see above note) - 8/10
Moore - 6/10
Brosnan (official Bond movies) - 6/10
Connery (GF onward) - 5.5/10
Lazenby - 4/10
An article from the Express, in which Timothy Dalton (amongst other things) praises Skyfall, says it is time for Bond to get proper attention at the Oscars, that Licence To Kill could have done with a couple more laughs, and Everything or Nothing would have been better if they had concentrated more on why the films have lasted fifty years.
