My 10-year old nephew watched SF and loved it and this was his first Bond movie ever. However, this little guy is indeed a rotund couch potato and video game addict and I've joked in the past that he can deftly stumble around a dark house with a soda in one hand and playing his game device in the other without the risk of dropping either. Another sad commentary about this nephew of mine is that he visited our home for the first time yesterday and he said, "you guys have a lot of books!" In fairness, a lot of those are novels, coffee-table books and comics in one way or another related to Bond

After three weeks at the top of the UK box office Skyfall has been dethroned by The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. Despite this, Skyfall has now surpassed Titanic to become the second highest grossing film of all time in the UK with £80.1 million ($127.4m). It now appears only a matter of time before it surpasses Avatar's record £94 million (149.6m) haul.
Skyfall earned $14.7 million on Friday which means it has become the first James Bond film to gross more than $200 million at the US box office. The previous highest US gross was Quantum of Solace' $168.3 million.
Perhaps this means a bigger budget for 24 to pay for the hollowed out Volcano
I thought Deakins and Mendes did a good job to cover it, but some of Skyfall looked like it was done on the cheap, particularly the Casino scene. Also Skyfall is the Bond film that never got out much, so perhaps a bigger budget would allow for some genuine location work/Globetrotting.
I was wondering has anyone any Info on How much location work
the stars got to do. I know DC was in Turkey, But did he get to go
to Shanghai at all. Or where all these scenes done in studio.
I remember reading that On Goldfinger Connery never left England. )

I believe that apart from Turkey everything else was in Blighty and studio trickery. To be fair they did well, but I would like to see more sumptuous locations used to their full potential.
As long as it looks convincing on the screen, I don't really care where it was filmed. I didn't think the Casino scenes looked cheap at all. The set design and art direction were excellent and up to the finest Bond standards. Deakins' cinematography was terrific along with the lighting (although I thought it looked superior in Digital IMAX than the Sony 4k projection I saw it in the second time).
Skyfall remained strong at the US box office over the five day Thanksgiving holiday period grossing $51 million. This brings the overall US total to $221.7 million. The total gross of all films at the US box office over the Thanksgiving holiday set a new record of $290 million.

Even in IMAX I thought it all looked a little small and cardboard like, I just did not 'buy it' if you did that's great. My point is that alternative locations can be convincing ( and largely were in Skyfall ) however that is still some way from ' exploiting a location to it's full potential'

I also missed some exotic locations. I only remember the shot of the boat as 'exotic'. (this doesn't mean that this was the only beautiful shot of course. This film is amazing in cinematography!)
The casino didn't look cheap to me. It didn't look fancy but it doesn't have to be. I really enjoyed these scene and feeling of it! The atmosphere for me was great in this scene!
Skyfall debuted at #1 on 595 screens in Australia and dominated the box office over the weekend raking in a massive $12,304,513. This makes Skyfall the biggest opening ever for a Bond film in Australia, outperforming the opening weekend of Quantum of Solace by an impressive 84%.
Skyfall is still going strong at the UK box office. It remained in second place on it's fifth weekend with an estimated £3.9 million ($6.3m) bringing the overall UK gross to approx £90 million ($144.5m). Skyfall is now within £4 million of Avatar's record UK gross. The overall worldwide gross on Sunday stood at $789,544,122, according to Box Office Mojo.

the box office performance is really impressive. how much is it going to make in total? what do you guys think? somewhere around $900mil?
I think it'll make a little under a billion, not counting China. I have no idea how much it will make in China, because the game is rigged there. Either way, SF has a good shot at being the #1 all time Bond film, even adjusting for inflation.

A couple of weeks ago I thought a billion dollars was rather optimistic and predicted something around $800 million. Now it has reached my prediction and is still going strong in countries like the US and UK. Your prediction of a little under a billion (not counting China) is looking pretty good right now.

Skyfall has become the highest grossing spy genre film in US box office history, with a total currently standing at just over $229 million. The previous highest was The Bourne Ultimatum's $227,471,070.
Sunday studio weekend estimates place Skyfall a close second behind The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 at the US box office. The two films are close enough that it is possible Skyfall may end up on top when the final numbers are released on Monday. Skyfall's weekend estimate of $17 million will lift it's overall US gross to $246 million.
Skyfall comfortably topped the Australian box office in the second weekend of it's release, grossing $7.7 million. The film kept a very healthy screen average of $13,209 across 585 screens according to Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia. Skyfall's overall gross after eleven days is $24.8 million. Quantum of Solace' overall gross after eleven weeks was $20.645 million.
Skyfall's current worldwide gross stands at $869 million, which places it at number 30 in the all time worldwide box office grosses chart, according to Box Office Mojo. Skyfall looks set to comfortably finish inside the top 20.
Skyfall leapt into the number one spot on it's opening weekend in Japan with a two day total of 455 million yen ($5.5 million). Opening on 584 screens - 355 showing the subtitled version against 229 for dubbed - Saturday saw 252,000 admissions, falling to 147,000 on Sunday. Skyfall opened 69% bigger than Casino Royale, and 49% bigger than Quantum of Solace.
According to MI6 Skyfall at second place this past weekend only earned 400,000 less than #1"Twilight" so it really is proving to have staying power on US screens. It would seem (in addition to being a really good film) that Bond appeals to a wider demographic than just the teen audiences that flock to see the "Twilight" films. Like CR, Skyfall will most likely still be hanging around in US theaters for New Years Eve which is traditionally a big box office day along with the XMAS holidays which will pump up the boxoffice that much more.
The bar is really going to be set high for 24. If "Skyfall" is today's "Goldfinger" will 24 be today's "Thunderball"?
In it's sixth week, Skyfall has returned to number one at the UK box office grossing £2.3 million ($3.6m) and is now on the brink of overtaking Avatar's record haul of £94 million ($149.6m).
An official announcement. EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Sony Pictures Entertainment are delighted to announce that SKYFALL has made history in the UK and become the highest grossing film of all time.
SKYFALL has now taken a staggering £94,277,612 at the UK box office in just 40 days on release, making box office history and overtaking the record previously held by Avatar which had a lifetime gross of £94,025,632 million during 11 months on release in UK cinemas.
SKYFALL, the 23rd James Bond adventure, continuing the longest running and most successful franchise in film history, opened in 587 cinemas across the UK and Ireland on Friday 26th October, and is still on general release.
In response to this fantastic news, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said "We're overwhelmed with gratitude to the cinema-going audiences in the UK who have made SKYFALL the highest grossing film of all time. We are very proud of this film and thank everybody, especially Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes, who have contributed to its success."

Immediately after i wrote that i thought it was too optimistic but i'm thinking it's even going to surpass $900mil. I think it's gonna come to a halt at $950mil.

Astounding indeed as Avatar had a re-release at the cinema some months later with a longer cut of the movie...

That is one nice site! I actually was quite close to some of these London locations last August but didn't realize... X-(
Seems I have a few more places to visit the next time I'm in London.
