Has Bond ever been to Ireland? I've been racking my brain and I can't think of any times...

    Not in the films and not in the Fleming novels, but he has in one of the Gardiner continuation novels. I think its No Deals Mr. Bond. Terrible title and not much better book.

    Yes he was in Ireland in the Gardner book, and Red Grant was Born in County Armagh
    as his Mum met up with a travelling circus strong man in FRWL. Although I also think
    there is a mention of Cork airport in One of Fleming's novels But I can't remember wich.

    i wonder why a bond film hasn't been filmed in ireland in the past. i mean ireland has been a lovely place, full of people who love the UK and theres been no unrest or problem areas within the last 30 years or so...... 8-)

    its a bit like asking, why hasn't bond been filmed in downtown baghdad?

    I think Cork airport is mentioned in DAF when Bond is flying to America. If memory serves me right it was a short stop over on the flight.

    Thanks Bodie, I'll check that out. I seem to remember Bond talks a little about
    The Irish Coffee and how it was first made. Something like that. -{

    At one time you couldn't move here without tripping over covert people, MI5,MI6, Det, SAS, SB, E4 ,FRU etc, it even ended with covert army and police having a gun battle in a garage forecourt that only ended with uniformed police arriving and both sides shouting "They're over there" :o

    It happened here in my hometown a few years back. Federal and State undercover agents were both following a local drug dealer, they drew down on each other thinking the others were the drug dealers bodyguards. Luckily no one got shot.

    Being over here I don't understand all the political intricacies of the UKs relationship with the Irish Republic (and I'm sure not trying to start an argument). I met quite a few Irish people when I was visiting England a few years ago I had an English client who had been working in Dublin for years in sort of telecommunications field...so I know ya'll get along on a business level.

    I can think of some plot lines where Bond could be working with the Irish for one reason or another...

    Yes, FRWL and DAF both reference Northern Ireland/ROI, as does NDMB by John Gardner. I am also an Ulsterman.

    In the DAF novel, Bond makes a quick stop in Shannon airport on his way to New York.
