I read Mendes saying he put so much energy and all his ideas into Skyfall that he was exhausted and couldnt see another one being done. However then he contradicts himself a little and says if the fans are happy with Skyfall and want him back then he would consider it!

My take is that Sam Mendes has a reasonable idea in the back of his mind whether or not he will return, but is not yet certain. He has only just completed his work on Skyfall so needs a bit of time and space to think things through properly. My feeling is that he will decide not to direct Bond 24.

While Sam Mendes has yet to confirm that he’ll be returning to direct another Bond film, the signs are looking increasingly promising that the Skyfall helmer will take the reins on 007’s next outing.
According to long-term Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, Mendes already has an idea in place for a potential follow-up, although they themselves will be leaving the franchise after a five-film residency.
“We’re very happy to have done five Bond movies,” said Wade in an official statement. “I think we’ve gotten it to a good place. I know that John Logan and Sam Mendes have come up with a plot for another one, which takes the pressure off because these films take up a lot of time.”
The duo worked on the scripts for all the Daniel Craig films, as well as The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day. They co-wrote Skyfall with Logan, giving them an opportunity to “go out on a high”.
Mendes has remained tight-lipped on his chances of returning, although with Skyfall smashing box office records left right and centre, we’d be surprised if Sony let him go without a fight. And, given that he's come up with the idea for Bond 24, it should at least have his fingerprints over it...

Danny Boyle has ruled himself out of directing Bond 24 and beyond. His experience directing The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio has put him off working on films with large budgets. Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Front row: "Certain people can handle that and I love watching those kinds of films, but I'm much better with a smaller amount of money and trying to make it go a long way."
I wouldn't be against him coming back, since there are a lot of worse choices, though I think I'd rather see someone else.
Specifically, I'd like to see Matthew Vaughn get a chance. He apparently wants to do a Bond film, and having just seen Layer Cake for the first time, I think he'd be a great choice. If he does get the chance, hopefully it's while Craig is still Bond.
Should Sam Mendes decide not to return then I would welcome either Matthew Vaughn or Christopher Nolan. Vaughn may appear to be the more likely candidate but rumour has it he will be directing the new Star Wars film.

Martin Campbell managed to pull off two of the best entries in the series. I am against another Mendes/Craig love-in although I liked Skyfall I am fearful of what cod psychological story line they might come up with. I suspect that they could not resist more back story involving Bonds parents. I want Bond to go on a sexy and tense adventure that tests his character to the limits but is not about him.
Martin Campbell would be a safe choice because as Gareth Mallory would say: he won't "**** it up". However Campbell has said he doesn't want to do another Bond and I don't believe that EON would be willing to ante up to the point that he couldn't say no.
With GE being my favourite, and SF being also highly ranked in my list of top bond films, I've got a right issue on my hands.....

Well, it was reported recently that John Logan is writing a two part story for Bond's 24 and 25. Perhaps, Martin Campbell can direct Bond 24 and Sam Mendes 25, or vice versa?

John Logan is a writer's writer and if left alone by the producers I'm sure he can come up with a better script than SKYFALL. I hope he'll lighten up in the next one. The Bond films don't need all this rectitude.
I would like to see Sam Mendes and Roger Deaklns return as well.
Logan, Mendes and Deakins are the most talented creative team assembled for a Bond film since OHMSS in 1969.
I don't like Martin Campbell's approach to the Bond films and I hope he stays out of it. Campbell is a deconstructionist. I hate what he did to Casino Royale. If Campbell gets another Bond film I'll stay home.

I think you may be giving way too much "credit" to Campbell for the changes/reboot you obviously did not like in Casino Royale.
CR (which I think is a terrific film and did a great job of "rebooting" the series) was more a product of the producers' (EON's) vision of what they believed needed to be done to bring new life to the Bond francise moving forward. I'm sure Campbell had input, but not to the level that Mendes had with Skyfall. Alot of people here seem to like Campbell because they believe he can work well with the screenwriter and EON while adding his little touches which will result in a film which is similar in tone, etc to Skyfall.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but on the
Xmen First Class behind the scenes on the Blue Ray Matthew Vaughn said he came very close to
directing a Bond and that's why essentially First Class is a 1960's Bond movie with super powers.
Watch the documentary they show lots of clips of the early 007s. Really interesting
Christopher Nolan is currently not too busy. And he has spoken regularly about his desire to do a bond film and how Bond has influenced his work.
Since Skyfall was basically a rip off of The Dark Knight, perhaps Nolan deserves a chance at Bond.

Especially given the fact that Christopher Nolan has clearly said that he based his rebooted Bruce Wayne persona on James Bond and his big action set pieces are highly influenced by the Bond films. If one believes that SF was a "ripoff" of TDKR then EON/the writers, etc would have had to have a copy of TDKR script as the timeline for the release of both films is too close.
Have a feeling its to do with Bruce Wayne being injured, retired from duty (Batman) and comes active again to defeat the enemy etc

Then again I was falling asleep during the last Batman so might have missed something (still in shock that Nolan put in that ridiculous ending which sort of contradicted what made his Batman so good in the first place - studio final say?)
