I didn't care for the Oscars. I'm just glad Adele won for Original Song. Hard to believe up until last night that a Bond film hadn't won an Oscar since Thunderball! :o

Glad that a Bond film finally won something after all these years. I think the Oscars are a big joke these days.
Apparently, a lot of the voters don't even view the films in a proper theater......DVD's or downloads of the films (called screeners) are sent to the Academy members. I just don't see how a film that was made to be seen in a theater, on a large screen can be fairly judged, especially in the areas of cinematography, sound, etc. Watching a film on even a big screen HD TV is still not the same as seeing it in a proper theater.

Can't believe Roger Deakins has been nominated 10 times without a win.....the fact that he was nominated for a Bond film was probably the kiss of death this time around. :s

I could not be happier for Skyfall winning the Oscars for best song and best sound editing. As for the fifty years of James Bond tribute, I thought it was okay, espcially seeing Dame Shirley Bassey sing the theme to Goldfinger.

Loved seeing Skyfall win twice. Feels like a validation, even though the Oscars are silly.

Dame Shirley belting out "Goldfinger" was the highlight of the night for me.

I was very disappointed in the Bond film tribute. I get that the theme of the night was music, but how do you have a tribute to the series without a single line of dialogue??? No "Bond, James Bond". No "Shaken, not stirred." Not a single utterance from any of the lead actors!!! Literally, the only "dialogue" I heard in that whole sequence was Melina sucking in her breath when she and Bond were yanked off the boat.
    Hilly...you old devil!

I just read that the tribute was trimmed because of time constraints. 8-)

If they really wanted to honor the anniversary of the series, then the AFI should have created a special star studded event similar to the lifetime achievement shows they do for the actors and directors but instead had the recipient be EON itself for maintaining the series for this long. It would have gotten a huge audience and been a fitting tribute.

I agree wholeheartedly... I was surpirised to see that she is not only still alive, but her performance was very emotionally stirring. I WAS hoping that since she has sung an unmatched THREE Bond themes that she would have done a medley of the three.

A good performance, but I thought Adele was great because hers seemed better than the actual song recording... maybe I just don't like modern production methods. It was the same watching Snow Patrol live.

This guy only seemed to vote on things he actually knew or had opinions on. I find it hard to believe you could set up this voting to avoid much of the way he was talking. That's how this works. Sure, he didn't see a few and he was dismissive or disagreeable on some things for personal reasons, but that's very normal.

Studios send out gift packages and posters to sway voters, stars go on SNL and out to publicity events. Its all to sway the vote since its practically impossible to act like there's a science to the votes. Many of that guys comments sounded pretty solid and knowledgeable, even though I thought Anna Karenina was of very impressive design and Jennifer Lawrence has never hit me the wrong way. I think he's right about several ways to judge these categories and unfounded in a handful.

And I believe documentaries must be screened in a theater or you can't vote. The other films can be seen either through the screening copies they will send to you (and let's get real, many home theaters, especially in Hollywood, let you see a film with far less distraction and far greater clarity and sound than the average theaters with people talking, inability for restroom pausing, and a number of uncontrollable factors) or through theater screenings.

If I were going to be asked to give my most pure analysis of a film, I would insist I get to screen a 1080p copy in my home with my surround sound and no one else present. That's how I know and see films best. Perfect contrast and settings, perfect sound, no distractions, no chance to miss a scene.

There's a reason presidential candidates tell you about their family and play fun music at speeches. There is no checklist or reasonable way to have a voter ignore any personal perspective and to memorize every aspect of candidate and platform on the ballot to still vote.

    And everyone EVERYONE is biased.
A good performance, but I thought Adele was great because hers seemed better than the actual song recording... maybe I just don't like modern production methods. It was the same watching Snow Patrol live.
I really enjoyed her live version, but I still find the lyrics and rhyming a bit elementary. I'd imagine it has to do with fitting that made up title into the song.

"Its a tie" and last such time that has happened was 35 years ago.

STAR WARS and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND which each took Oscar for best sound effects editing while STAR WARS also took best achievement in sound all recoded mixed and released in DOLBY STEREO.

When Mark Wahlberg paused I thought? (this is not good) :)) then said "its tie". I knew straight then last time was 35 years ago. So I guess next one will be in 35 years. :))
