Does May Maxwell live with Bond?

Does May Maxwell live with Bond, and if so does she know he works for MI6? I haven’t read all the novels so don’t know this?

Yes, May lives with Bond. She's his 'Scottish treasure' - the woman who cleans and tidies his Chelsea flat off the King's Road and who cooks for him. She certainly knows that he works for the Secret Intelligence Service, or some such official government department.

Just out of curiosity, where is May's surname revealed to be Maxwell? I don't seem to remember any reference to that.

I don't know. I haven't read all the novels. I just got it off Wikipedia:

Not aware that her surname is ever used/revealed. Happy to be proved wrong though.

It's mentioned in John Pearson's bio of James Bond from 1973, entitled JAMES BOND: THE AUTHORISED BIOGRAPHY OF 007.

    There'a a 2006 reprint.

    Thanks.

    My pleasure.

In John Gardner's NOBODY LIVES FOREVER, Miss Moneypenny and May are kidnapped and Bond has to go in search of them.

In my copy of the Pearson book cited above, May's surname is given as McGrath.

It's been my understanding that May Maxwell was the name of the real-life lady Fleming based the character on, who worked for his close friend Ivar Bryce.

And in the Gardner book, the author has a hard time using May and Moneypenny as hostage characters without mentioning either May's surname or Moneypenny's first name!

It would be neat if they brought her into the film series.
As a one film character that would be quite cool, and also a chance of seeing Bond's flat since LALD
