Actor Charles Dance for future 'M'

I think Charles Dance should be considered for a future M, or Foreign Secretary since MI6 is supposed to be under Foreign Affairs. I did not know that he was actually in "For your Eyes Only" and has played Ian Fleming. To me, he has that air of credibility as a British Military/Intelligence offical.

I can definitely see where you're coming from, however I could also actually see him as an excellent bad guy too. He has that look about him that seems sort of 'creepily nice', lending itself well to someone who is actually quite nasty beneath the surface. Good actor though.

He played a villain in Cinemax/SkyTv's awful series "Strike Back".

Charles Dance as a future M? Assuming Ralph Fiennes has anything like the tenure of Judi Dench then Dance will be way too old. I can certainly see him in a role as a government minister or military intelligence official, either loyal or corrupt.

Of course, Simon Russell Beale was touting himself as a future M

, and it seems he must have known about the script for SF in that case. You can see how he would have fit in as a Bernard Lee-style M, as he has the craggy face, though not the voice. It would fit right in with the end of the film and the back to square one feel, though it would seem like retreading the same ground.

Look here, he pops up in a sliding photo thing. Looks like Bernard Lee.

Didn't he play one of Locques' henchmen in FYEO? I think Dance was the best literary Bond that never was, based on the Fleming biopic "Goldeneye" that he did. In fact, because of all these recent discussions about SF being "Flemingesque," I've been craving to watch someone who actually was and put aside my copy of Goldeneye to watch sometime this weekend.

Yes, he is with Locque when they follow Bond to the top of the ski jump, then tries to fight Bond as they go down the ramp. Later on, he appears again with Locque as they pursue Bond and Countess Lisl in the beach buggies, and is killed by one of Columbo's men.
