Why does M say MI7 not MI6 in the briefing room It's not Johnny English. I'm watching Dr No right now, is this just an odd mistake.

I heard somewhere that he originally said MI6 but in the dub he said MI7.

I read that originally he said MI6, but they dubbed it MI7 because they were not fully confident that saying MI6 would not offend or disrespect real service members. Later in the productions, they had enough discussions that they felt confident using MI6 in the films instead of a made up branch number.

There actually was an MI7...I think it was responsible for propaganda. I know that MI9 was escape and evasion...not sure about the others, seem to remember that there were divisions for code-breaking, map-making etc. However, if it was propaganda that really wouldn't have suited Bond at all, unless they thought that wearing the best clothes, having gorgeous women hanging off his arm and driving expensive cars would undermine the enemy!

Hmm ... that's different from what I've heard: MI7 was a blooper that went unnoticed.
